Default The Bizarre Tiny Bet Thread

Before the current Irie post I have oft wondered what the heck people have when they make a crazy small bet into a big pot. How about posting it in this thread if you see hand like this that goes to showdown?

Probably. Incidentally, I raised to 70. But the min bet's what this is about anyway. I assume he had a small set or an A. Possibly KK. 5.50 players are weird.

Cool.

He pretty clearly seems to think of it as a blocking bet.

He did manage to see a cheap showdown with pretty close to the nut worst hand on the second hand. He didn't want you to bluff him out with a 48.

micro, I think that on the lower levels, the mini-flop bet generally means one of 4 things.

1) A bet to take it down, as for some reason they've figured out that the multi-tablers can fold to even this sized bet. I see this often out of the SB. If you raise this guys bet, you almost always take it down.

2) A bet representing any paired card on the board.

3) A bet to scare off hands when the board comes QQ8 (or the like). I'd say 90% of the time, this hand is very weak.

4) A bet to build the pot when it's multi-handed and someone thinks their hand is the nuts, which it could be.

I think that ScubaChuck is right on with his 4 reasons why guys mini-bet. If I see a guy do it more than once or twice, I've started doing something like this (PP 22, blinds 25-50)

UTG ( $1950 )
UTG+1( $1120 )
CO ( $390 )
Button ( $1280 )
SB (HERO) ( $1590 ) dealt 8sJs
BB ( $1670 )

UTG, CO, Button, HERO all call. BB checks.

** Dealing Flop ** [ 2s, 6c, 9d ] (Pot t250)

HERO checks.
BB checks.
UTG bets [50].
CO folds.
Button folds.
HERO calls [50].
BB folds.

** Dealing Turn ** [ 4c ] (Pot 350)
HERO bets [250].
UTG folds.

I don't do this often, but in this case, I had the benefit of knowing that there was a good chance that I could get the pot heads up. It was also a benefit that I was OOP. Plus, villain had mini-bet twice before.
