It's disgusting that the truth behind his death was hidden and lied about even to his family. And even more disgusting the way his death was used as political capital to cover for Abu Ghraib.

Ten bucks says we'll never be allowed to know the full truth of what happened.[ QUOTE ]
“I can see it like a movie screen,” Baer said. “We were outside of (a city in southern Iraq) watching as bombs were dropping on the town. We were at an old air base, me, Kevin and Pat, we weren’t in the fight right then. We were talking. And Pat said, ‘You know, this war is so f— illegal.’ And we all said, ‘Yeah.’ That’s who he was. He totally was against Bush.”

Another soldier in the platoon, who asked not to be identified, said Pat urged him to vote for Bush’s Democratic opponent in the 2004 election, Sen. John Kerry.

[/ QUOTE ] And now, it's obvious he'd turn over in his grave to hear how the Right's armchair warriors used him post-mortem.

Default Pat Tillman goes down

Beyond the snafu that killed Tillman and the Americans' Afghani guide, which happens in a war, what is interesting is seeing that the ex-football star was more informed about the war than people gave him credit for, both pro- and anti-war people.

Good article. While I don't approve of lying to the family, you have to admit that the killed by the enemy story makes much better propaganda than the friendly fire one.

Him being well-read and having the independence to be opposed to the war just makes him more of a hero, in my opinion.

I watched his memorial service on TV when this happend, and at the time, they were saying they weren't sure how he died, and that it might have been friendly fire. This really isn't anything new.

exactly, the new content isn't the ff stuff, it's the multiple cover-ups, and the fact that he was *against* the Iraq war.
