Default Personal shoe buffers?

Does anyone have any experience with those personal shoe buffers that you can buy in places like SharperImage? You know, the ones with a red buffer and a black buffer and you just put your shoe under them. Do they work?

You're saying they're complete crap? No redeeming qualities at all? Won't shine for nothing?

Anyone else?

Most places I've seen them in use, they were primarily to clean off rain/dirt/mud etc. IMO, a paper towel is just as effective.
If you're actually planning on putting shoe polish on the shoes before using the buffer, then it works fine, but still a waste of $$$.
