I'm playing 9/6 Jacks or Better, but it has that goofy option to "Double" if you win. You have to pick one of 4 cards to be higher than the card showing.

What's the house edge on this, and how bad of an idea is it to take this option vs. not taking it?

[/ QUOTE ]

Massive sucker bet. There is no guarantee that any of the 4 cards will be higher than yours. All 5 are random. It is possible to try to double 1,000 times with zero possibility of a win. Unclick the allow double option. It is your only hope at value.

[/ QUOTE ]

But it is also possible to try to double 1000 times with zero possibility of a loss.

Just because the cards are random doesn't mean it's a -EV bet. It is a 0 EV bet that increases your variance.

That is not to say I am a fan of the bet, though.

If clearing a bonus with VP, it is clearly a very good proposition.

Yes, of course, if it counts towards the WR.

granny i know your kidding about it being a sucker bet, my question is what is the grannymae tournament on paradise?

actually, i am not kidding. sure, it will effectively lower the house edge on the game because there is no house edge on the bet. however, it does not allow you to protect your win, and GREATLY increases the variance. i play for royals, and this is not the way to get there. survival is the way to get there.

perhaps 'suckers bet' was the wrong way to classify it. it is simply not for me. the two camps are evenly divided, but the determinant on why certain like the option and why certain do not are made up of passionate arguments from both sides.

also, if you have gotten ANY video poker game (internet or land based) to 100%+ through comps and favorable pay tables, then it IS a bad bet.

the "GrannyMae" tournament listed for july 8th is the next toejam. info is in my classified.
