Default Computer Idiot needs computer help.

I bought two older 19" 1600x1200 res monitors today.

Took them home and tried to figure out how to hook them up to my Dell Inspirion. There is only one female socket on the Dell and nowhere to hook the 2nd monitor up.

The question: If I get another videocard does it come with another female socket to plug in the 2nd monitor?

This questions is the culmination of reading relevant posts on this subject and my continued confusion.

thanks for any help.

Yes. Buy a PCI video card.

Is it possible to use a monitor switch box instead of purchasing another video card?

No.

Not to belabor this point, but it must be a PCI card, not an AGP or PCI Express card. The local Best Buy might not have any PCI cards. Most cards will do 1800x1200, but you better check before you buy.

He means 1600x1200.

If you can't find a PCI card capable of 1600x1200 then your next best bet is to look at newegg.com. I usually buy my computer crap there because its cheaper than retail. Shipping is pretty fast too.

Dell Inspiron???

Isn't that a laptop?

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but you cannot just buy another video card and hook a third monitor to a laptop. You can hook 1 additional, but not two.
