Default A good NFL trivia question:

Name the top 5 rushers in NFL history in terms of yards.

Obviously some people are going to answer, so I'll include the answer below in white. Write down a guess and see if you know your NFL.

1. Emitt Smith
2. Walter Payton
3. Barry Sanders
4. Curtis Martin (!!!)
5. Jerome Bettis

Are you surprised by #4?

The guy has been in the NFL for a decade and missed less than half a dozen games. Combine that with the fact that he's always been a top running back (led the NFL last year) and it's hard to believe he wouldn't be near the top.

Hindsight being 20/20 of course I would consider it, but he definitely wasn't somebody I was thinking of.

#4 didn't surprise me at all. I only got 2 right and he was one of them. #5, Jerome Bettis blew me away though. I would have never guessed him.

Weird that you are surprised by Curtis Martin. I got the top four but guessed Dickerson instead of Bettis for #5. Looks like I would've nailed if you would've asked this question during the third quarter of the last game of last season!

1. *E Smith 18355
2. W Payton 16726
3. B Sanders 15269
4. *C Martin 13366
5. *J Bettis 13294
6. E Dickerson 13259
7. T Dorsett 12739
8. J Brown 12312
9. M Allen 12243
10. F Harris 12120
11. T Thomas 12074
12. *M Faulk 11987
13. J Riggins 11352
14. O Simpson 11236
15. R Watters 10643
16. *E George 10441
17. O Anderson 10273
18. *C Dillon 9696
19. E Campbell 9407
20. T Allen 8614

I think I might've gotten close to the whole top 20 except for Ricky Watters and Terry Freakin' Allen. That's where the (!!!) belongs.

I got them all right. But I knew the order of the top 3 and Curtis Martin just moved up into 4 last year and I watched that game and remembered it and I just saw on SC that the bus was #5.

I had this discussion with a friend last year how weird it is to see #4 and 5 in this list. It's not necesssarily surprising, as durability and consistency at RB over prolonged periods are fairly rare qualities, but they just don't seem to be on that level.

Not on that level? They're both first ballot hall of famers. And until a couple of years ago both were among the most prodcutive runners in the league for ten years. Only Bettis has fallen off.
