Default whats wrong with the ipod?

so its often skipping songs which is really annoying.

It'll play for 30 seconds and go right to the next one. It does it for the same songs and sometimes completely skips a song. It will also freeze up on occasion (How do I manually restart it? I don't see any holes for paperclips like old macs). If I play the songs from the library in my computer, this skipping [censored] doesn't happen.

How do I fix this crap?

it was a gift and is a new 60GB color that has been dropped once

You dropped a device which is basically a hard drive and you expect it to continue working as designed? Moran.

Hit the 4 corners of the "navigation circle" (sorry lack of better term) all at once. So hit Left,Right,Up,Down all at the same time and it will reset like a video game system it will just turn off and then turn right back on.

Bingo. My girlfriend's ipod was doing this and she called them and they told her to do this. Now it works like new. Until it breaks again.

You can also just press and hold the Select and Menu buttons for a few seconds.

FWIW my iPod is having very similar problems, and I've never dropped it. It's just a POS.

Could the drop have caused a chain reaction which allowed the IPOD to acquire good taste?
