Default Live Tourney Report--Long, maybe boring

$10 + Rebuys Tournament at a local casino Start with T-200

Unlimited $15 rebuys during first hour when less than T-500 (gets you T-500). 2 $15 Add-ons at first break (T-1000 / AO)

90 entrants: Total prize pool (after rebuys) $6200.00

Blinds increase every 20 Minutes

Blind Levels: 5/10, 10/20 (race off red chips), 25/50, 50/100, 100/200, 200/500, 500/1000 (NL), 1000/2000 (NL), 2000/5000 (NL), 5000/10,000 (NL)

Third hand in the tourney (Blinds 5/10) , I am on the button (T-185) with A-8s. UTG raises, two callers to me, I call, SB folds, BB Calls. Flop comes down A-J-2 (one of my suit). Checked to me, I bet, folded to UTG who calls, everyone else folds. Turn is A-J-2-[7]. UTG bets, I smell a rat....I call. River is A-J-2-7-[J]. UTG bets, I call. UTG shows quad Jacks....REBUY.

The rest of the first hour went pretty normal. I picked up a couple of pots, but only had T-525 at the end of the hour. I took 2 add-ons.

Pretty uneventfull during the 50/100 blinds, with several Loose-Passives to deal with.

Blinds 100/200: I (T-2000) am UTG+1 with A-A. UTG folds, I raise. Folded to Button who calls, SB folds, BB calls. Flop J-7-3. BB Checks, I bet, Button calls, BB Folds. Turn J-7-3-[T]. I bet, Button raises, I think...the bastard has J-T. But I call. River is a blank. I check, he bets (he's all-in), I call. I show A-A, he mucks and walks away...WooHoo.

I'm up to T-4300.

I'm able to steal a few blinds and maintain my stack through the 100/200 & 200/500 Blind levels, and start the 3rd hour with T-7000 (chip leader at my table, with 3 tables still in play).

BLINDS 500/1000, No Limit (Down to 2 tables): Second hand in this level, I pick up 5-5 in LP. CO is the only stack at the table that worries me (he has about T-5500), and he is a good, albeit somewhat loose, player. I push. CO thinks for a long time...He stares me down as I sit there smiling at him. He is talking to me...

"I should call you. I have a GOOD hand, and I want to call, but I could lose all my chips. Man, what do you have?"

He finally folds, and I pick up the blinds. CO says "Show me that hand!". Rule is 'show one, show all', so I flip the 5-5 face up on the table and ear graons from 3 places LOL. CO says "Man, I had K-T suited.....SUITED! I love that hand". I replied "I wouldn't put MY tournament at stake on K-T, suited or not."

Next hand I have T-9500. I get K-K and push. I get called in 2 places...A-5o and 9-To (Damn that Greg Raymer LOL). Flop comes 9-T-2. 9-To guy lets out a whoop: "2 pair!" he yells. Turn is a 2. I say "hey, I've got 2 pair, too!". River is a blank and two guys go home.

BLINDS 1000/2000, No Limit: Near the end of this level, the TD says:

"OK guys, I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is, there are 11 players left. After one more person is eliminated, you will be at the final table. Each player at the final table will recieve $100. The bad news is, the limits are going up! Tournament dealers: The blinds are 2000/5000, you're on the blue deck, shuffle up and deal!"

BLINDS 2000/5000, No Limit, Hand-For-Hand until final table: I Have T-30,000. BB has T-2000 after posting. I am the chip leader. I get 8-8, and push. Everyone folds to the BB, who moans a while, looks at his cards...moans again, then folds 3-5o face up. I show 8-8, and he says "I got 2,000 left and I can't beat a F'ing pair of 8's!"

Next hand, I'm BB with 6-9s. SB is all-in for 2000. Folded to the SB. Before I turn my hand over, I tell the guy "I really do hope you have me on this one". I show 6-9s, he shows A-8o. Flop comes down 7-8-3. Turn is K, River is T...completing my straight.

Short stack at the other table loses all-in on this hand as well, but he went into the hand with 4000, so he gets 10th place and the $100. My guy is pissed.

FINAL TABLE:

After a short break, we draw for seats. I draw the same seat I've been in the whole tournament, and start in the SB. Everyone at the final table is very familiar to me. My Dad, 3 people who work with my dad, and the rest are people I have played poker with for the last 2 years. They convince me to save $300 (everyone is guaranteed $300), and I agreed, saying that "everyone has worked hard to get here".

I am very aggressive, having everyone out-chipped by 3x or more. I push from CO with 9-9. BB (A lady friend of mine, has about T-7000 after posting the T-5000 blind. She decides to call, and shows A-9o. No help for her and she's gone.

2 hands later, my dad is the BB. I get A-Js in UTG+2, and it is folded to me. Dad has T-4000 after posting, and I push. Folded to my dad, who says "See Norman, this is what we call 'passing chips'. My baby boy is giving me some of his chips!" I ask dad if he can beat A-A, he says "I don't know...I haven't looked, but they [his cards] feel pretty heavy." as he calls all-in. I turn my hand over, and dad chooses to wait until all the cards are out to see what he has. An Ace on the river makes me 1 pair, dad flips over A-8o for 1-pair and is gone (with $300, though LOL).

After a few more hands, and the blinds go up, everyone at the table is laying heavy guilt trips on me to get me to agree to an even split 7-ways. I refused several times, but in the end I furiously agreed, saying "I just knocked my F'ing DAD off of this table. Do you think I give a [censored] about you getting another $150?"

So anyway, I took the $463.58, tipped the dealers $40, and left pissed off. Everyone came up before I left and thanked me for taking the deal. The all told me "Don't worry, Casey, I'll remember you when YOU are the short-stack at the final table. I'll chop it up with you, and YOU'LL be getting the bargain. I promise." BLAHHHH.

So that's how it went down. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

I'll try to answer this with some semblance of intelligence

I play 20 hours a week at this place for an average of $25/hr (over the last 6 months). Last year, while I was out of work, I paid my bills (I'm not gonna say how much my bills are, but they are higher than most folks) by playing here daily for 6 or 7 months.

I know all of these people and their history for the last couple of years. I hear about their kid's car wrecks and their grandkid's weddings. A couple of them have had me play their money at the 20/40 game to split the profits. They are good people.

I was the only one holding out on the deal, for obvious reasons. It got to the point that I was becoming the [censored], even though, in reality, they were the assholes. I don't need 6 pissed-off guys at my 10/20 table trying to run me down at the river, or putting me on tilt with stupid remarks while I'm earning a paycheck.

That's the best answer I can come up with.

Because it's fun

I don't play this tournament regularly, but I have played it many times over the last couple of years. It's not as bad a crapshoot as it may appear, simply for all the dead money. I am certain I have won more money than I have spent in entries and rebuys (Not that it matters a great deal, I just enjoy playing the tourney every one-in-a-while).

Oh yeah, one other reason...until very recently, it was the only game in town.

You're just spoiled by the internet tournaments that give a good player a lot of time to outplay his opponents. This is live, and real-estate is important in the casino. The game is set up to draw a crowd, then end in 3 - 4 hours, leaving everyone time to play at the tables, or slots, or blackjack....you get the idea.

Nice report Casey, I too like the crazy local rebuy tourney.

More dead money at live games than on the net these days. (percentage wise)

Jeez, you bust your Dad, THEN you make a deal.

I hope you buy him something nice for Christmas.

Cheers,
Woodguy
