Clearly this worked nicely but I would have tried to bet-3bet the turn.

Because he limp reraised, I don't necesarily think he will raise this turn if he doesn't have anthing. He will often bet the turn often even with nothing.

OK in which case there's no way I cap the turn, you're showing immense strength and he still 3-bet, too often he has like 76s or something.

I don't think so. If he can have 76s he can still have an overpair.

Lots of players wouldn't 3-bet an overpair here and far more often when a player cold-calls and then caps they have suited connectors or some silly hand that has you beat rather than 99 or better in my experience.
