Default 56s on the button

I was playing in a live 25/50 limit game that switched to no limit after a few hours. Blinds are $2/5, but average stack is around 1500, so we're playing pretty deep here. Three people limp to me on the button, and I (~2200) raise it to $40 with 5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] I've been doing a lot of raising in position and a lot of folding out of position. The big blind calls, and so do the limpers.

The flop (with about 200 bucks in it) 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] T [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
UTG (has me covered) bets 120. He's very tricky, and could do this with a variety of holdings. He's led into a PFR once before and showed down top two. He hasn't done it to me. I decide to call.

Turn comes 6 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
He checks. I bet 400. He raises to 1200. I vomit and...?

....realize I should have checked behind on the turn with a hand like this.

AZK, could you please explain the rationale for checking behind. I actually would have pushed here. (I do understand check or push over that bet.)

I'm not speaking for AZK, but in this example, hero has bottom two with a weak flush draw. You can't expect that hand to win big pots, especially against someone who plays well post-flop. Hence, I don't like the push at all (...what worse hands would you expect to call?).

However checking behind on the turn, with position, keeps the pot smaller and makes the river easier to play.

You have 13 outs against the nuts/top two, and only 9 against a higher set. I think this is a pretty easy check behind, because you're not getting nearly good enough odds to get all in on this turn.

It's 5 way in a raised pot and UTG leads into preflop raiser and you want to push with bottom 2?

Check behind and hope to hit your flush, i wouldn't feel that confident that my boat outs are good.
