Online poker is still thriving....BIGTIME
#'s from pokerpulse. I know alot of companies who would love to have a yearly growth as high as online poker's monthly growth.
# of online players and month over month growth. September 2004/ 1,235,000/ 10.3% October 2004/ 1,344,000/ 10.2% November 2004/ 1,437,000/ 7.1% December 2004/ 1,622,000/ 11.3% January 2005/ 1,784,000/ 9.9% |

Re: Online poker is still thriving....BIGTIME
Neat. I've been looking for these numbers. Any chance someone has these numbers for the rest of 2004 and 2003?

Wow, those are some big numbers. Out of curiousity does anyone have what they feel is a good guess to who all these new people signing up are? Specifically do you think there more college aged kids signing up or middle aged men if you had to guess? Obviously many of both, but which one is higher?

Most sites don't let you 8-table, and attributing monthly growth of 10% to the tiny percentage of people who can: a) successfully set up a second account on another skin b) play > 4 tables, and do is rediculous. |

a) successfully set up a second account on another skin
b) play > 4 tables, and do is rediculous. As I posted a couple of days back, there are already more people registered at 2+2 than play on Party at prime time. I'm not sure why it's such a silly concept. Also you can 8-table without playing just one site. Lori |

Re: Online poker is still thriving....BIGTIME
I generally agree Buster. I don't think it's a bunch of 8-tablers.
but I do think some of the increase in numbers obviously has to be attributed to current online players setting up an account at a new site (not a skin). The topic of online-poker came up in a B&M game a month or two and the two guys were chatting about it as if they only play on 1 or 2 sites. "Oh...I hadn't really heard of paradisepoker...do they have a sign-up bonus...maybe I'll try over there. All I've ever played is pokerstars. I like their tournaments." Stuff like that. Add in a few pseudo-bonuswhores as well as current players with accounts currently at 3 sites finally deciding to see how they like UB or pokerroom or something and I think that HAS to be considered when discussing these numbers. It does fell like there are more and more new and distinct players coming onto the sites...but it is kind of difficult to tell just by these numbers how many new and distinct individual players are coming to online-poker. |
