Default Value-Betting AK hi...

I always have trouble with this...

Villain is 28.3/20.1/2.1 over 150 hands (no notes, mostly observed hands)

20/40 Limit Hold'em; 6Max

SB posted the small blind - $10.00

BB posted the big blind - $20.00

** Dealing card to <font color="red">Hero</font> : Ace of Hearts, King of Spades

UTG called - $20.00

<font color="red">Hero</font> raised - $40.00

Dealer folded

SB folded

BB folded

UTG called - $40.00

** Dealing the flop: 9 of Clubs, 7 of Diamonds, 3 of Hearts

UTG checked

<font color="red">Hero</font> bet - $20.00

UTG called - $20.00

** Dealing the turn: 2 of Hearts

UTG checked

<font color="red">Hero</font> checked

** Dealing the river: 9 of Hearts

UTG checked

<font color="red"><font color="red">Hero</font></font> żż[dont know]??

<font color="red"> </font> THOUGHTS IN WHITE:

<font color="white"> Most of the time I think I fire the second barrel, but he did ChR me once since I'd sat down (only about 25 hands with him, rest mined) and I wanted to go to showdown... I wanted to bet the river, but the heart scared me for some reason... admittedly, it was a BD draw... maybe I should have?

i bet both the turn and the river.

although its weird that this very aggressive player open-limped here. because he seems smart i bet the turn and check the river.

Why would you bet the river? I don't see many better hands folding or worse hands calling.

AQ, AJ, AT all call here, as well as low suited unpaired aces. however, since this TAG open limped i am more wary.

I think it is very unlikely that this villain is open limping UTG with any hand that has an Ace in it. Also, I would almost never bet this turn, checking on the turn gives you a free card when you are behind and induces a river bluff when you are ahead.

right, i modified my original statement saying that against this guy i dont bet the river.

however, i dont like checking this turn. the board is too ragged and the chances are too good that your hand is best here, and i dont want to have a different turn line on times when i miss vs. times when i hit. it becomes too easily exploitable by LAGs/TAGs.

What if he check-raises the turn thinking you missed? Do you call the Turn ChR? If he leads River?

if ive seen him do a lot of c/c c/r OOP with big hands, i will just lay it down. however, without a read i think this board is too ragged to fold AK
