Default taking a shot at higher live stakes

i currently play the 1/2 at a casino with a max buy in of 100$ (really sux), and was thinking of attempting the 2/5 (max 200$ buy in), but:

after asking several people who play at that stake, they say the play is wild, and it is horrible when the standard raise is 50$ which is 25% of your stack preflop. my question is in regard to buy ins...i have 15 buy ins right now for the 1/2, which would be 7.5 for the 2/5 if i were to play. i wanted to build to 20 buy ins before playing the 2/5 but know that i can probably sit around waiting for AA or KK and doubling up then playing with a big stack. is this a good idea or should i wait and make 40 buy ins at 1/2 (giving me 20 for the 2/5)??

thanks in advance.

Play Ed Miller's Short Stack Style and you will be fine, especially in a great game like the one you described.

Sounds like a great game. You dont have to be properly bankrolled to take a shot. Also, you shouldn't be waiting for just AA/KK to push over the top, especially if you can get in multiway dominating one of the parties. I would push AK every day with one open and a cold caller, since you will be getting a big overlay on what is likely a coin flip or better.

Have you tried online poker? I hear that if you're a decent player you can build a roll there pretty quickly. Rumor has it, some people even play more than one table at once to get hands in faster. If you need more info, PM me and we can try to do some additional research together.

Sounds exactly like the 2-5 games at the Seneca Casinos around these woods.

Great games to play in.
Be patient, wait for your hands, you will get paid off.

shockingly i sense sarcasm, but in actuality i play exclusively on UB but am pulling it. the ease of play live, even if i sit for 8 hours and fold all day, versus the distractions of at home play and the possibility of other players using PT makes it (in my eyes/experience) much more profitable to play live.

I take it you play Niagra then right?
I mostly get to Irving and Salamanca as they are a bit closer for me (I live in Erie PA currently).
Them being 1-1.2 hours away compared to Niagra being closer to 2 hours away make a big difference in deciding where to go and when.
I hear the play is much looser and wilder up at Niagra though, which is why i'd love to play up there more often.
