Which skill is better to have?
If you had to choose one of two skills two work on, which one would be more profitable? Let's say, NL hold 'em only, and post flop only.
1) Knowing when to lay down the worst hand? 2) Knowing when to call with the best hand? |

Re: Which skill is better to have?
no-limit = avoid death at all costs.
low limit = get your $$$$ in with best hands. miller/sklansky SSHE book basically says you need good reason to fold big pot. whereas i think alot of other people like to save another bet (but i think that's more applicable to higher stakes games).... should almost never be playing 2nd pair though, unless you got in on Big blind and board is a mess. but no-limit = avoid death. |

Re: Which skill is better to have?
It depends on the other players. Which situation comes up more often and for bigger pots and more money overall? I think in lower limits, it's probably more important to get away from a hand since people are less aggressive and at higher limits, it's probably better to know when to call since everyone is applying the hell out of gap theory and being aggressive. These are general trends only and you have to make exceptions for unusual players or situations.

Re: Which skill is better to have?
In limit pot odds frequently make both decisions easy. In nl both depend upon better knowledge of your opponents and on betting your money in such a way that you can more accurately guage the strength of your opponents' hands from their reaction while not letting them have a good read on your own.
