Tournament Scenerio -- What would you do?

In both cases, I do my best to put him on a hand, and then make the appropriate decision. In many cases, I will make a mistake, but that's poker.

Well, that's either bad luck, or you've got a tell. If it's online, then it's basically just bad luck. Or, maybe you're attacking the wrong people's blinds. If you've got nothing but a blind steal, you should pass if the big blind is the type of person to play back with any semi-decent hand.

You pick the best spot you can find, and go for broke. Don't go quietly, as a general rule, is pretty good.

Yes, I got good starting cards (at least slightly above average). More importantly, I got paid off pretty often when I made a big hand. I also did a very good (or lucky) job of stealing blinds at the right time. Most importantly, I only took two bad beats of any significance the entire week. Once when I got it all-in preflop with AA vs. TT and a T hit the river, for about 2/3 of a M. And the hand at the final table where I flopped top pair, and got Dan Harrington all-in with second pair, only for him to catch trips on the river for a 3.5M pot. Other than those, never the whole week did I get the money in while well ahead and then lose after the money went in (at least not in any significant pot).

I also only sucked out twice for key pots. The two at the final table, where I beat AA while holding TT against Mike, and my AT making a straight on the river to beat Mattias' AK. Both of those hands all the money went in preflop, and I got lucky. But I never put any other bad beats on anybody else all week. At least not bad beats in the sense that I put the money in when way behind, and then got lucky. There were many times I got lucky, and THEN put the money in the middle.
