Constantly taking shots while underbankrolled(seriously). Usually having 100 BB and trying at a limit, if I lose 50 bb then step back down.

I agree.

If you're not playing for a living, or you're a pro but you're playing at limits higher than the lowest limit you'd need to meet your expenses and have some non-BR money set aside to keep you going for a few months, taking shots is the fastest way to move up.

If you're trying to churn out 6,000 as fast as possible with very little risk, 5/10 (6max) is the way to go. If you don't mind the risk of running bad and having to step down, just start the 15 now.

In a more general sense, I think players just starting out in online poker who are unwilliing to invest a lot of money ought to look at capped buyin NL games. Moving up/down at 10 buyin thresholds in 50 BB maxbuy games is probably the fastest way to move up to a decent 3/6 or 5/10 limit roll. More importantly, NL is a much easier game to learn.

It's easier to learn as long as you're talking about capped buy-in games. It's definitely the easiest game to beat with very little experience because you can literally wait for the nuts and show a profit.

Uncapped games are still nowhere near as complex as limit games of equivalent size.

Since I have no experience in either game, I can't refute what you're saying, but I'd like to hear others weigh in on this. I find it hard to believe. I don't remember which book, but I believe Sklansky rates NL Hold'em as the game requiring the most skill out of all poker games. I'm not 100% sure though.

If you want to see this argument in a 2p2 book, read Mason's essays on the differences between NL and limit in the Poker Essays books.

I more or less did all of them and am sitting at the cusp of having a roll for 15/30 (12K) and was wondering how to best tack on another 6 or so to get it to a comfort zone.

[/ QUOTE ]

if you don't mind me asking, why is it now that you only have a 12k roll?
