I'm not so sure about this. 3-bet and then check is so fishy that a thinking opponent can put you on a real hand pretty easily IMO. He may even check through like AQ which would be dreadful. I think bet-call is a proper amount of action. If you bet and he calls you can consider check-raising the river for value.
