I think I'd reraise preflop to get more of the garbage hands out, and a better insight as to what he might have. I suppose he might have AA and is scared of the two tens, but if that's the case so be it. I'd probably play it the same way you did.

No read whether this is an attempt to steal the blind? I like the idea of re-raising pre-flop to find out where you are. I'm going to guess he has a King and not AA. Why the smallish bet on the turn and not a pot-sized one?
