Default Where to safeguard cash in Vegas?

Ok, sort of a simple question for everyone. Going to Vegas in a month, and I'm worried about where to squirrel away my bankroll when in town. I've heard not to trust the room safes? Is this true? I don't want to hide it amongst a pile of clothes, that just doesn't seem sensical. I certainly don't want to walk around with 3k on me. So what gives? Do you guys trust the room safes or what? I've heard that travelers checks are a real hassle too. I'm staying at the MGM.

Thx.

I don't know why the a room safe wouldn't be good, but I prefer to have my money on me - I know where that is at all times and short of getting mugged, it's not going to dissapear without my knowledge.

I think a lot of poeple that carry around a lot of cash use money belts or other "hidden" means of carrying their money.

There's likely to ba an ATM reasonably handy - why not just get cash as you need it if you're worried about your BR?

The casino is built to hold and safeguard money. Deposit your cash at the cage and you can annoy everyone else by taking markers at the table. At least that's how i'd do it. 30 $100 bills makes my wallet malfunction.

Its a ten day trip for me. Going to Phoenix for five days with my buddy to visit family and golf and hit local casinos then Vegas for five days. I am paranoid about walking around with so much money on me, thats just not safe. I could withdraw from an ATM but would have to contact my bank to raise my $300 per day limit, plus would likely have to pay a fee each time, I suppose thats not a bad idea, only two bucks a pop and if they raised me to $500 a day that would likely work, but thats not the point. I want to take what I want to take with me, and be comfortable counting what I'm up, what I'm down, etc....

I like the other fellows idea about depositing everything at the cage and taking markers, but I'm probably going to be at a number of different casinos all throughout the five days and that seems tiresome. Plus I'd have to have it all on me to transport from one place to another.

Let me clue you in on the Vegas scene. A guy walking around with $3K in his wallet isn't impressing anybody. People all over the place have thousands of dollars on them and you can't tell who's got what by looking at them. A guy in a very nice business suit can have just barely enough cash for a good 4-8 buy-in while somebody else in a t-shirt and shorts has a huge baccarat bankroll on him.

The room safes are perfect. Who do you expect is going to steal money from there?

Thats all I wanted to hear, from someone thats been living the scene for a while. Certainly not trying to impress anyone, but three large is a chunk of change I don't want to lose, nor would I feel comfortable walking around with it 24/7. We could hook up for a game of seven card stud and I could leave a couple racks with you for safekeeping no?

Room safe it is. Someone posted something about them not being as reliable as they should be, but I'll take your word that they are safe.

I use the room safe when I play at the Commerce. I can't imagine the Vegas safes not being reliable.

If you don't want to carry cash around with you, you can always carry chips. Take your $500 (or whatever you've got at the time) and get a $500 chip from the cashier. Just don't let it fall out a hole in your pocket.

I've found that the girls at Cheetah's very helpful in this regard. They are always accomodating, and they will safeguard the cash next to their naughty parts, and what could possibly be safer than that?

In all seriousness, I wouldn't do the room safe. The maids have infinite time to look through these things (there are usually only 4 digits for the code). Plus, they cost money. All of the good strip hotels will have boxes at the front desk for their guests. I had a box at the Monte Carlo the last time I was out there. Full in-and-out, no cost, and easy.

While not on the Strip, the room safes at the Rio were free. Yes, it's only four digits, but have you seen how many rooms there are to clean? I don't think the maids have time to sit around and try thousands of combos without somebody noticing.
