Default 4 8 suited on BB

I was online at a 5-10$ 6man table on the big blind with 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].

UTG limps and so do 1 other. The small blind raises.
(I call saying to myself that i have odds if the other 2 players call also.)

UTG calls and the button re-raises, then small blind capps it with a fourth bet.
(I called, because now i was mad that i didn't get the cheap flop so I wasn't going to give my 2 small bets away at this point.)

Pot size16 small bets)
UTG calls. flop: 6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].

Small blind bets, I call and every one else does too.

Pot size20 small bets)
turn: 7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].

small blind bets again,I call and so do the others.

Pot size14 big bets)
river: 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].

small blind bets and i just call and so do the others.

Pot size18 big bets)
I take the pot! the small blind had AA, button had TT.

Please reply with thoughts on this hand

the appropriate forum for this is "heads-up and short-handed"

some thoughts on the hand anyway, since you asked nicely:

-i would call the initial bet preflop typically. the main exception would be if the callers were known limpreraisers.

-i would fold for the two additional bets preflop. first of all your implied odds are much worse. secondly you are more likely to be against a big pair. don't do things because you're mad.

-i agree with your flop and turn play. i don't think aggression is called for here.

-if the hands/ board you posted are correct then the button would have won this pot with a ten high straight. assuming the board is correct i agree with your river call.

I'm doubtful that calling a raise with 84s on the BB is good. 87s - of course; 86s - maybe; 84s - ??? Can this really be positive EV? Short-handed particularly means draw values go down and big cards/pairs value goes up. 84 is junk.

I am not much of a short handed player yet, but is playing even 87s from button preflop good? I agree with your thought that high value cards are more of a premium--why then play mid suited connectors from a raised pot--even with the button? I'm not trying to be snotty, I just don't know the answer here! Thanks!

It wasnt the button, it was the big blind. From the button, no, playing even suited connectors isnt good short-handed. But on the big blind I'd call with 87s for one more bet, sure. You've only [voluntarily] put in half as much as everyone else in the pot and something like 87s has a 40% of beating AKo.

it's "highness"

The original preflop call is marginal. The second one is bad. Also, if this was accurate, the Button would win at showdown with his straight.
