KJs turn and river play.....standard?
Party 3/6. All opponents in the hand are loose-passive.
Preflop: I'm in EP with K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] and open-limp. EP2 calls, as do MP and the button. SB folds, BB checks. Flop: (5 SB) 3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Checked to me, I bet, EP2 raises, BB calls 2 cold, I call. Since BB called 2 cold, is this a flop worth pumping, even though it's only 3-handed? Turn: (5.5 BB) K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. BB bets, I raise, EP2 3-bets, BB folds, I call. River: 7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. I check, EP2 bets, I raise, EP2 calls. Standard? |

I think you caught EP2 with a set, maybe 66?? Nice play. He's shown aggression the whole way, where you've shown him that you slowed down, probably with overcards. I like the play, and caught him for another bet.

Re: KJs turn and river play.....standard?
I liked the the river check raise...a lot. As for the rest of the hand...
Preflop, I usually will raise with that hand, unless...I do not feel like raising with it at that time. I reraise the flop and intend on betting the turn when I hit a K J or spade. Hopefully my action on the flop will get me a free river card. Turn ok. He has shown a lot aggression and had told you he can beat top pair. River, beautiful play. |

Re: KJs turn and river play.....standard?
Great play overall however I don't like the Turn raise. He has shown enough aggression for you to know you are drawing to the flush as your only clear win. His reraise on teh turn + the cold callers means you should have check/called, and don't tell me it was a semibluff because you know you are not picking up the pot here with the BB raising and the guy on your right itchin to reraise. with 5.5 bb in the pot it was 3bet. Counting your raise you have a pot with 12.5 BB which you put 3 in. Normally this is ok for a flush draw hitting 1 to 4.22 but if he has a set he could boat up with your flush or you could hit another K or J and get committed for more chips with a worse hand. If you merely call the bb raise then call the other guys raise you are putting 2 bets into a pot with 10.5 giving you aroudn 1 to 5.25 a better proposition IMHO.

Re: KJs turn and river play.....standard?
Timothy, this was a pure value raise. One flop raise on a ragged board is not nearly enough to convince me that a K is no good. He may have a set, TT-77, A6, 65s, etc. I can't assume a set until he 3-bets the turn. At that point, it's 1 more BB into a pot that already contains 11.5 BB and I have as many as 8 outs.

Re: KJs turn and river play.....standard?
Good points allaround. And again it all depends on the player. I was assuming TAP in EP I'm used to 5/10 10/20 and the tighter players there will show you a set often in that position, at least in our cardroom.
The turn betis truly one of those rare situations where call and raiser are close in EV though raising is always bettter ;p and for sometreason I think i was thinking 3 bet flop, :P My bad. Cheers, Timothy **edit** I remember what i was thinking on my initial reply, In a game as loose as the the 3/6 are in a casino. I don't play online so I'm not sure how the typical 3/6 is online. If I bet that flop I either have the flush draw, trips my self or an overpair. If that guy is observant and I have KJ I feel Im already beat either by an over pair or trips. I agree your King might not be dead. This is all because he gives such heavy action in a loose game with several players to act and you potentially reraise, depending on how aggressive you are... **end edit** |
