Reactions of WPT/WSOP Winners
I can't believe the reactions of winners of $1 million + at WPT/WSOP events. They shake hands, thrust their arms in the air, maybe grab someone in the audience for a minute. How controlled and laid-back.
Now if I won $1 million + at a WPT/WSOP event: 1. I would jump up and down for 3 minutes. 2. Run into the audience and give my wife a big wet kiss. 3. High-five everyone in the audience. 4. "Drinks for everybody, even you Vince". 5. Spend 15 minutes alternately screaming with joy or sobbing. |

Of course I was not talking about long-time rich pros. You
would expect a laid-back reaction from them. |

Re: Reactions of WPT/WSOP Winners
I think it's a combination of being really tired and trying to be a graceful winner.

I think it's a combination of being really tired and trying to be a graceful winner. [/ QUOTE ] Good points. Its nice to see some class at the tables. Clearly being excited/overwhelmed/etc is understandable as for a lot of these guys its life changing money, but when they get to the the final table they're aweful close to life-changing money (if not there already) so some of the celebrating/overwhelming reaction could be done the night before the final table. But yeah, hard to imagine not going totally wild if you win one of these and collect a $1MM+ prize! Hard to "act like you've been there" when you clearly never have even been in the same area code as "there". ThisHo |

Re: Reactions of WPT/WSOP Winners
I wonder if "amateurs" who sneak into the final table at WPT
events are actually told not to "go crazy". I think Lipscomb and the management of the WPT don't want it to appear like wrestling. I guess Phil Laak got a free pass that one time. |

Kinda like on the price is right when the lady wins a set of stainless steel cookware. She goes berzerk like she just won a million dollars. lol. They must pick contestants that are a bit nuts. I've never seen a "normal" person get on stage on any of these game shows. Personally, if I won a million dollars or a set of stainless steel cookware, I don't think I'd act any different than normal. I'd just try to act polite and tactful or whatever. Just because you're on TV doesn't mean you can act like an ass, does it? As far as winning a million dollars, it would take several days, if not several weeks for it to really sink in, for me, anyway. It's not like I'd blow it all that night on hookers and whisky or anything. |

Re: Reactions of WPT/WSOP Winners
I saw a program once where they mentioned how tightly controlled poker players emotions are. Basically they theorized that poker players clamp down so tightly on their emotions while playing that it takes awhile to let go of them.
From personal experience I would tend to agree. The one live tournament I won I was very calm about it. After a couple nerve wracking hours playing poker, needing more than a few suckouts to get where I was, I was almost as relieved it was over as I was to win the very nice cash prize. |
