number of chips to buy?
I've seen the recommendation that you should get 500 chips for a 10-person tournament. Do you agree with that? If you want to play cash games does the same hold, or can you get by with less?

Re: number of chips to buy?
You can easily get by with 300 for a normal cash game. Just have a few big chips.
For example, lets say you play 1-2NL. The majority of your chips should be 1/5/25, but order 10 or 20 $100 chips as well. This ensures you won't run out. You can get by with 300 for a tournament, but you will need more big chips. If you plan on using the set for both purposes, I would suggest getting the 500 set. |

Re: number of chips to buy?
We had a cash game at a pool hall here a few years ago that somehow managed to get by playing $2/$4 Omaha/8 using an 88 chip set (wtf?) that was only $1/$5/$10.
Still, 500 chips is about what I'd buy for a 10 man cash game. |
