Default Playing Omaha 8 live in LV

I apologize because I know this has been asked before but I couldnt find it with the search page.

I am going to be in Las Vegas in a few weeks and am looking to play Omaha8 (I will be there midweek). I get the sense that the following places offer it:

Orleans
Mirage
Bellagio
MGM Grand (?)
Wynn (?)

Has anyone played these games? What was it like in terms of quality and speed? I am looking to play 4-8 to 10-20 I think.

Any other places offer it?

Thanks
AA

Hi AA,

I found the thread. Search 1p0kerb0y in the bricks and motar section. It looked like Bellagio and Mirage, there were a few others.

Sorry, i don't know how to make those cute links that people use.

Any Ace - I've played Omaha-8 at the Orleans and Mirage (and Texas hold 'em at Bellagio). Of course I'm partial to Omaha-8. I liked the poker rooms at both the Orleans and the Mirage. I've also stayed at both hotels.

I'll probably get there some time in mid-July this year and will probably stay and play mostly at the Orleans. No particular reason. Maybe I've gotten a better room rate at the Orleans than the Mirage. Nice rooms by my standards in both places. (My wife is fussier, but I'll never get her to go to Las Vegas with me anyway).

I liked the tournaments at the Orleans. There was no smoking in either card room (Orleans or Mirage) when I last played there. And there's something about being there - calling the poker room from your room to reserve a spot and then taking the elevator down to the casino and joining the game any time of day or night. Nice.

Yeah, those sound like familiar limits. Or maybe it was 5-10. Something like that. At the Orleans they had some other kind of limit for some tables too, sometimes cheaper on the first betting round, as I recall. It's been a while. (L.A. is pretty nice for cards) - but I do like Las Vegas.

I'm not sure what you mean by quality and speed. I don't play on-line. Maybe by on-line standards the games are slow. (People write about paint drying and stuff). But live Omaha-8 games seem interesting and fast enough to me.

Hello, I usually play at the Wynn and played 6/12 with a full kill yesterday for about 8 hours. The game runs anywhere from 2-5 days a week and anywhere from 5-10 to 10-20 with full or half kills.

The Orleans has had some fair O8 games, 4-8 with a kill. The Mirage has a 5- 10 kill game--I haven't seen much action taking place at the tables--they seem real tight. The Bellagio has had occasional games at 40-80 that have been real good, but don't make consistently. Bellagio also has a 4-8 games.

Thanks for all the replies. I have played holdem at a lot of the rooms mentioned, but this will be my first time playing o8 live.

Here is a link to the post Ironman Dave mentioned:

Sounds like both the Mirage and Orleans were "nitty". I am only going to be there tuesday to friday and am wondering if it will be "grumpy old man city" at any/all of these places. Of course, I am 35, so I might fit right in...

Definitely wanted to check out the Wynn, so I might start there.

Some guy on twoplustwo irc chat the other day said the game at the wynn (I think it was 10/20 Kill) was very good. The mirage mid-limit game (20/40?) is a fricking rock garden, or atleast it was last year when I played in it and it has a reputation as such.

Any thoughts on how much I should bring to the table for a 10/20 full kill? Would $1,000 be about right?

Also, what is the trigger for the kill? A scoop of a certain size?

Thanks

AnyAce,

Just returned from playing a whole lot of 5-10 O8B at the Mirage. From my perspective, the game floats between very fishy and mildly tight, depending on how many regulars are at the table (just watch how many people greet a person when s/he goes to sit down). Regardless of looseness or tightness, the play is very rarely aggressive. This only changed when either bored hold 'em players or Brits visiting for the WSOP sat down. In those cases, a pre-flop re-raise wasn't unheard of, especially if it was a kill pot.
