Default What is it all the kids are saying, \'sick maximus\' is it?

For the 6 Max guys:

I usually skip over the 6M posts, as uh, well, yeah. Anywho, when I get back from Vegas next week, I'm going to start playing the SH tables. I've got the requisite posts marked for reading, and the requisite texts covered (King Yao's book is really good). The question is this; is it worth it to donk around at .5/1 six max, or do most of you go straight to 1/2 short from 1/2 full?

And BTW, I'll be in vegas from the 18th to the 22nd, mostly playing at MGM. Look for the drunken ass yelling 'ship it' and doing the truffle shuffle. I'll be sitting on his right.

I would go straight to 1/2. You should have an edge over 95% of the sh-tables at 1/2 even without practise. The players are much worse on average.

Ps. Ofc the variance is a bitch..

I started 6 max three months ago and I started in .5/1 first. Consensus is probably right in that you will crush .5/1 but I think its worthwhile to try at least 2-3 sessions at .5/1 to get the hang of it.

You probably know this but things to keep in mind:

1) generally don't open limp (unless you have a low PP UTG with a very passive table or something like that)

2) check raises are important especially when you are OOP to isolate ppl

3) People are more likely to call down with A high so value betting is important

4) PP even small ones are quite valuable

5) if you're defending your SB, you might as well 3 bet or BB has correct odds for almost any two to defend

I play .50/1.00 6 max. I'm glad I did because it took a few thousand hands to get used to the increased speed. Plus I'm a nit with my bankroll.

I went straight into 1/2 6max from .5/1, on my second trip through micros .. this was before they had the .5/1 6max tables though

I think maybe a 1000hands at .5/1 just to get used to the pacing wouldn't be a bad idea, but if you are beating 1/2 you should be able to beat 1/2 6max

Nate, this could be sample size, but I haven't broken even at the 0.5/1 6max. While it's not really a big deal to my BR, as the empire bonus is helping out with this, I'm trying to minimize my "tuition" at 6-max games. Thus, starting at 0.5/1 is the way for me to go, at least.

Also, it may be a good idea to label 6m threads:

"6m: I just played this awesome 6m hand..."

or something like that.

Or maybe there should be a microHUSH forum somewhere.

Anyways, maybe the mods could come up with something creative, like if anyone posts it without labelling it, they have to either take a sissy avatar of the mod's choice (whoever catches them first) or compose a brief poem, maybe a haiku, in appology.

--Dave.

Good luck in Vegas, bro. I hope you have a great time!
