Regarding human stasis during the journey. When traveling near the speed of light the aging process will be reduced significantly. Relativity and whatnot.

It will still take you 10 or so years to reach alpha centauri. And once you get there, every young person you knew on earth will be either geriatric or dead. If time slows down for you, it speeds up for them, relatively.

this is true

theoretically, with enough acceleration, you could reach anywhere in the universe in 1 second (provided it's a finite distance away) of your time, or even .01 seconds, or any non-zero finite amount of time

Trade with the colonies would be difficult. But it might be fun to go around planting the seeds. Interstellar Internet chat rooms would be pretty laggy.
