Mid senior year high school, 2004, learn poker with friends playing with change in study hours.

2 months later, buy TOP & small stakes

4 months later, win 7 dollars on bodog freeroll by getting 3rd place.

KEY SPOT - play 5 dollar sng and win !!!!!

2 months later 7 dollars is now 1500
cashout 1200

1 month later, back to 1500

All cause of a little freeroll

started playing poker about a year ago bought hpfap and found this site, browsed around lost some money off and on playing nl, in Feb. I decided I never wanted to deposit again so I started playing the 10's on party seriously and reading this forum, was amazed that raptor made so much damn money at 18,sent him a drunken msg about the dedication it took to get to that level and he just told me he played a hell of a lot of sng's, got a response from citanul I think? not sure? when I asked about pushing AQ one time and he said change the Q to a 2 and still push helped me understand being aggressive..made a steady profit since Feb. but had to cash out several times b/c I needed money. Moved up to the 20's when my br was around 600 and have turned that into 2500+ as of now

Started playing as a senior in high school (January 2004)

Deposited $50. Played $50c/$1 limit at Party Poker. Turned that into $317.

The $317 I then took to the PL $50 tables. Then, for a short while, the PL $200 tables Won some more. Then, with my $1200 bankroll, I took my shot at the PL $200 tables. This was when the games were ALOT softer than they are today. So even with just HEFAP under my belt (which had nothing to do with PL), I was able to turn that $1200 to about $5500, from January-March. I experienced some hectic swings (lost a grand then won it all back in 6 hours) that made me feel like crap, so I slowed down and stopped playing for a while, intermittently playing the $50 PL.

I play a bit during the summer, not too much, and make about maybe $600-700 playing a combo of lower limit/NL Hold'em games. Oh, and this is when I first found out about Sngs. Didnt like them too much at first, because I would always win a little, then lose a little, and always seemed to break even.

At college, during the early parts of the semester, I didnt play at all, focusing instead on studies/socializing. But, during Thanksgiving break, the bug bit me again, and I convinced a friend to loan me $400 (we would split profits) to try my shot at Sngs, because I read on 2+2 that they had the lowest variance. Turned that $400 into $800 for my friend and gave him all the money I won (kept none for myself, partly because I didnt need the money, and partly because I felt sorry for my friend, b/c he has a lot of loans for school, and partly b/c the main reason I played was to see if I could still play. Lol, dont worry, he would return the favor)

So, with the little money I had left in my bank accounts from my previous foray into poker (about $600), I started playing again. Started at $20+2 sngs. Experienced some horrible swings, but I made about $1500 in Sngs and $900 from a 5th place cash in a $109 MTT (Lol, who needed bankroll back then) between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Then I had a bright idea... The Steps were just implemented, and I told my friend that I was going to take my shot at them. I bought 14 times at Step 1 ($12 a piece) and was able to get two freerolls into the 1k Step 5s.

The 1st time I played, I got 5th (BUBBLE), reraising all in to the aggro big stack with 33 (literally my first playble hand in 30 hands), and he busted me with AK.

The 2nd time however, I manage to suckout with K8 v AT, and got AK v AT to be able to finish 3rd and get a HUGE $3600 k cash.

My bankroll was now at about 6k. However, after my Alienware laptop broke, and various other expenses, that soon whittled down to about 2k. When I got back to school (January), I played on and off, and made about 2k playing $20+2 sngs. So my bankroll was now at 4 grand.

April 11th, 2005. The fateful day I decide to get "serious" with my 3-monitor set up and play these purely for profit purposes. Ive steadily moved up from the $20s to the $30s to now the $50s, making about $11.7k in profit for the last 9 weeks. Along the way, my friend loaned me 1.7k (hes a successful Sng pro as well now, thanks to me, ha!) to help me pay for expenses for my trip down Miami. Dont worry, Ill pay him back as soon as we get back to school.

So thats my story. Overall, made about, rough estimate, $23 to $24 thousand dollars. Not bad for an 18 year old still going to college full time, but I have plans to make it to the $215s by the end of this year. Then, Ill be making serious money.

Current Bankroll: $6523.07
Current Level: 8 tabling, soon 10 tabling $50+5 Sngs.

Too many success stories here.

Mid January: learn to play Hold'em.

Feb.3, 05: first real money deposit on PP.
Slowly lose for about a month and a half to the tune of $6-700.

Mid-March: Accidentally enter into a limit SnG and clean those b!tches out. Decide to try limit ring since I seem to suck at NL.

Beginning of Apr.: Hit a couple lucky sessions and decide to move up the stakes, the luck continues and I retardedly(though not to my knowledge at the time) move to the 3/6 with a bankroll of about $300. I continue using my luckbox for about a week and breakeven for a BR of about $750.

Mid to Late April: The upswing is over and in two weeks Im back to less than $50.

Late April: My dad buys me HEPFAP for my 20th birthday. I notice a website on the back and decide to check it out. Im then convinced to buy PokerTracker.

Early May to now: Havent redeposited since, just learned of the profitability of SnGs a few weeks ago, and going to try them out. So far: 6 games at the $10+1, 5 ITM, 2 wins.

BR: $450, slowly climbing back up, and for the record, this site has been the biggest EV+ decision ive made.

Edit: Sorry for bringing up a somewhat dead thread

I am a recreational player and play between 20 to 50 hours a month.

September 04:
Started playing Holdem on Pacific. Lost $400

October 04:
discovered 2+2, started playing on Party. Grew BR to $1100 from bonuswhoring. Poker results slightly negativ on Party .5/1.0

January05:
Bought Small Stakes, added Cryptos and moved the bank roll to $2000 by bonus whoring. Breaking barely even on game play.

February:
tried out 1/2 6max, having 2BB/100 over the next 3 months on 15000 hands. Playing full ring also profitable.

March:
No poker, somehow started casino whoring and made $4000 over 2 weeks. Scared to death that the casinos won't pay me. It took up to 3 weeks and many e-mails to get all my money. Vowed to quit casino whoring and followed through up to now. BR now to $7000, cashed out $ 2000 => BR @ $5000.

Good April, bad May (got killed at 2/4 full ring, got killed at GamesGrid), BR at $ 5500

June05:
Just needed a change and played 109 and 55 SnGs. Decided to better start learning playing those first and moved back to 22s. Playing the first 20 22s like an ass, lost $250ish. Read a bit more here. Now, after 85 in total my ROI is at 11% (sample size, blah blah) but playing them feels quite comfortable. I'll play them for full 500 and then decide whether to move up.

All in all, it is nice to have a hobby and making some money on it.

Well....Hmmmm, I throw my hat into the ring as well...

*April 2004.....Get entered through work into Gutshot/Betfair Classic for the opening of Gutshot Poker Club in London. (£100 buy-in)....After telling the guys at work that I was some hotshot poker player (This consisted of watching Late-Night Poker on the telly for 2 years and that was it...) I download VC poker and practice on the real money tables whilst being staked by my boss...
I finish 22nd out of 169 and get the buzz.....

*I return to the Poker Club on the Beginners night a few weeks later....Enter the £5 PLHE + Rebuy tourney......Do 1 rebuy and 1 add-on......and end up chopping the tourney when HU for £350 as it was 2.45am and I had to be up for work at 6am......(89 players BTW)

*May 2004...Decide to have a go on VC poker for a little bit and start playing at home....Start of with $100 and manage between now and October to get my BR upto $750 approx...Cash out $500...

*Sept 2004 - Discover 2+2.....Bankroll lurking around ~$200

*October 2004....Register on 2+2....

*Novemeber -Read Homers guide to Bankroll building.....and cash out completely from VC....

*December 16th - Start a blog to keep track of things....

*Jan 1st - Start playing pokie semi-seriously...Ie keeping records....purchase Poker-Tracker....Read SSHE and PPLTP (P.Hellmuths)....Start of with $500, having downloaded Interpoker & PokerPlex on Dec 16th. I started with £200, and cashed this back out on Jan 1st to leave my starting BR...

*Continue making progress at 50c/$1 NL....

*Late March/Early April 2005......Go to Florida on a family holiday and purchase Supersystem

*Come back and add 40% to my bankroll in 2 weeks....preety much down to adding another table (3tabling) and applying some SS tactics....

*June - Start with Rakeback on the cryptos......

*June 29th - Have my Poker PC built after lots of deliberation.....(Don't get the two Dell 2001FP's, due to their immense cost in the UK) and get flamed in the Internet forum for doing this.....Ho Hum)....

*Bankroll ~ $$6200ish....

*Renewed aims after first 6 months having already reached my target for the year.....

FWIW....yet to play on Party network/Prima/Pokerstars, but will start adding these skins over the coming weeks once I am up and running....

Lots of good success stories here. =)

I'd say, I'm the opposite, down about.... 12k or so in the last 1.5-2 yrs.

Most if not all from tilt... and boredom (I have serious ADD). I consistantly win in B&M, and local tourneys, as well as MTT's online (I can focus a bit better with MTT's).

Thought I'd share an honest negative bankroll post. =)
Luckily, I do real well for myself at the day job, so... I expect that loss to be double that in the next year!!! (sw... not really. =()

Funny Drunken Stories:
Amazingly, I am up over $600 in my life while playing drunk. One time I got back from the bar and started 4 tabling NL25 and stacked 9 people in a little over an hour after some HEAVY advertising. Another time I made the final table of an empire $22 buy-in (300 person) tourney with a gigantic chip lead (like 95k versus 30k in second) playing turbo drunken LAG luckbox style (roughly 10 beers deep). My roomates were listening to Journey way too loud and the cops came and took me away from my computer and questioned me for over 2 hours about some random BS. I got blinded out in that time and only finished 5th for $350 (and a $500 fine). I also won a $33 3 table while pregaming before the bar. Needless to say, I blew the majority of the $250 profit that night. On the flip side, I woke up once after blacking out with $215 less in my account. Sure enough, I checked my email and there was a HH from a 215. I went out when I pushed JJ into AA level 1 like a drunken moron.

You should have told the cop to f*^( off because you were about to win $1600 on online poker and you don't care what laws are being broken.
