Default When to make your one rebuy?

Playing at a local casino, I participated in a MTT with buy-in 200$ with one rebuy of 133$ (strange $-amounts calculated from local currency). Same amount of chips are bought with the rebuy as with the buy-in.

I will always rebuy unless I get lucky and make a big stack early, and the extra rebuy chips won't have a significant impact on my stack. Is this thinking correct?

Second question is, when is the best time to make this rebuy? Should it be made as soon as someone makes a bigger stack than mine (which most times will be after only a few hands), or should I wait till my stack is so short I have lost the potential of aquiring a really big stack?

Any comment is welcome, thanks in advance.

Is there a minimum amount of chips your stack must be before you can rebuy? If so, I will always rebuy immediately, especially if it is cheaper to rebuy.

If it's more important to you to win the tournament, rebuy immediately. If it's more important to cash, wait until you bust.

It is most important to maximize EV. In this tournament there were prizes for 3 last players (50%,30%,20%) out of 33 participants. You could rebuy at any time during or immediatly after the first 3 levels or so.
Please clarify.

If you feel like you have a good handle on the field, take the rebuy as early as possible.

If you think you might be in over your head, or want insurance, save it til you bust, then consider using your rebuy.

Well, basically if you rebuy immediately you cover the field and a double up against someone else who rebought immediately will give you a very good chip position. However if you go allin and lose you are done.

On the other hand, if you save your rebuy, you can survive an allin against someone who has rebought immediately and not be gone for the tournament. But you will be nursing a shortstack for the entire tournament, which will make it very difficult to win.

Obviously, the most +EV decision would be the one that makes it likeliest to win. But if you are playing above your bankroll (-EV in the first place), then it may be more important to just cash. If such things are not your concern, then rebuy immediately.

This is far from obvious, and in many cases, untrue. In some prize structures, perhaps including this one, it could be a true statement.

Just because you don't have the bank roll to handle the variance of a certain game, doesn't make it EV-.

But anyway, I understand that there is an element of risk aversion involved here. But would you agree that with only 3 money places for 33 players, playing safely early by focusing on staying in the game will in general be a mistake? My conclusion is that rebuying immediately will maximise your EV.
Can anyone think of cases (reads on players, etc.) in this tournament structure where this might not be the case?

If some fish at your table rebuy straight away or somehow build a big stack early, then take the rebuy. Otherwise wait.

You want to have a reson to rebuy (ie win the equivalent chips off weaker players), otherwise save it for insurance purposes.
