Default 3/6 NL - Do you call w/the ace flush on a paired board?

This is a hand my friend was involved in. 3/6 NL.

I don't know what the villain had.

Here goes.

My friend limps in EP with Ax of diamonds. MP min-raises to $12. LP calls $12. My friend calls the extra $6.

Flop: J 9 8 (2 diamonds) [Pot is ~45]

My friend CHECKS - MP bets $6, LP makes it $20, My friend CALLS $20, MP CALLS $14.
{This part of the hand is puzzling to me. What does LP have at this point? 2 Pair or Set would have to raise more here I think.. I would think top pair would raise more as well...Because the raise to 20 offers good drawing odds}

Turn: Jd - Giving my friend the ace high flush, but pairing the board.
My friend CHECKS - MP CHECKS - LP CHECKS

{Thoughts here?}

River: 2h

My friend - Bets $30 - LP PUSHES for $570 more.
My friend folds.

Now what does LP have?
What are your thoughts?

Given the way he makes a small raise on that draw happy flop I am thinking he flopped the straight and wants people to stay in... And the more I think about it the more I think..gasp.. he had a straight flush.
He checks the 3rd diamond imo giving a chance for someone else to catch what they think are the nuts. ..... But maybe he just played his flopped set or non-suited straight like total ass? No particular read on the player, just your average tight-ish PStars player.

I'd love to hear what people here think.

Awfully tough laydown. I'd like to know what suits went with the flop cards, and also what stacks your friend and the other bettors were working with. Besides these details though, I probably have to call that bet.

If you can't make this routine fold, you shouldn't play NL. Opponent has nut flush crushed, be glad he made it so obvious.

P.S: wrong forum.
