Ring vs. SnG
Of course I know the differences, but what are the major pro's and cons? The reason I ask is most consistant money makers in poker 'seem' to play ring games. When I play ring, I currently break even the majority of the time with some minor swings one way or the other (both limit and NL). Yet, I seem to win the majority of SnG's, though the income is very slow.
For what its worth, I play .50/$1 Limit, .10/.25 NL, or $5 SnG's. I honestly dont know why I do better in SnG's other than the fact that im more willing to take an all-in risk since you have to play to win, not just gain some chips. |

Of course I should note, all of these are played on UB.

Re: Ring vs. SnG
It would seem that as you break even playing ring games and win the majority of your sng's you should play sng's, whatever the major pros and cons are for others.

Re: Ring vs. SnG
I believe you have pretty much answered your own question. You make more money playing SNGs but they take longer to get the income. So, do you want to wait to earn SNG money?

Re: Ring vs. SnG
SnGs can be pretty consistant, it is the big NL tourneys that is inconstent.
Keep playing SnGs until you get sick of them. |

Re: Ring vs. SnG
I primarilly play SnG's for these reasons:
- They are fun - There is a begining, middle, bubble and end game - There is a very good strategy for each of these stages - You know exactly how much money you will spend to enter it - You know exactly how much you can win - They are usually less than an hour I primarilly play Ring games for these reasons: - You can play and leave any time - 4 tabling Ring games is easier than 4 tabling SnG's (IMO) - I play them to clear Party skin bonuses - For variety when I get bored with SnG's I'm like you I basically break even or win a little playing the ring games, but I'm a pretty good SnG player. I usually play 2 SnG's at a time, so I don't get bored. Low buyin SnG's + Bonus Whoring (with Ring Games or SNG's if allowed) is a great way for a new online player to build his bankroll and get better at his game with a very small risk of losing money. |

Re: Ring vs. SnG
There is no one correct answer to this. Some people are better at sng's, some people are better at ring games. There are people that make their living doing each. Do what works for you.

Re: Ring vs. SnG
To say if I break even in ring games, that I should not continue playing them is simply making the assumption that I cannot improve.
If in general, ring games have a better ROI at lower stakes, I am more than willing to learn to get better at them. |

Re: Ring vs. SnG
if you're breaking even at 0.5/1 limit and 0.10/0.25 NL, your problem isn't "what games should i play", it's "how do i get better at poker". playing ring games will probably improve your overall skills more than SNGs.
