Ive been looking into getting a cost effective monitor as well...check out tigerdirect.com...found a couple of CRT's there for half the price you quoted from Best Buy...Dont really know how good these are, but for the price, if they last a couple of years, what the hell??

I'm playing on the Samsung SyncMaster 997DF right now. It was an excellent purchase! I highly reccomend it.

I have the samsung 19 CRT as well, and a really old cheap 17 inch CRT. I think I am going to take the 19 inch to ebay and throw away the 17 and get 2 dell monitors. I think (rationalized) that a serious online gambler should invest in their display liberally.

I also have this monitor and have been quite happy with it. The picture is sharp and I am not getting the eye strain that I was with my 17".

Maybe the refresh rate depends on the video card as well as the monitor; I'm currently running 1200 x 1600 @72 Hz with no problem and it looks good to me.

TigerDirect is a really iffy site, cross check out sites with Reseller Ratings.

I only ran it at max resolution once while 8-tabling but I did not have any problems. I normally run 1600x1200 at 70Hz and they work like a charm.

I have a 17" Sony CRT that does 1600x1200 and it's just fine. This week CompUsa is running a 19" for $129.

I got that 19" Samsung at Best Buy, had some trouble with eyestrain though and ended up exchanging it for their 21 inch flat panel. No more eyestrain problems.

I bought two of these recently at the local Office Max for $138.99 a piece. I don't remember if that was a sale price or not, though. 75 Hz and no eyestrain to speak of.

4-tables are clear and readable, as well.

Check your local classifieds, man.
People are dumping CRTs for cheap to get LCDs.

I just got a 17" CRT 1600x1280 for $85 Cdn.
19" CRT 2048x1536 for $110 Cdn.

Works great.
