Default Tunica

Which is the nicer hotel to stay in (more comfortable, better food, etc)?

Impossible to answer without knowing one's personal preferences.

Gold Strike--hotel attached to casino. Very short walk to Horseshoe and Sheraton (as if there is any reason to go to Sheraton). Decent restaurants at GS and Sheraton. Very good restaurants at HS. GS rooms are very mediocre IMHO.

Grand--actually has three hotels. One is short walk to casino but not attached. The other two require a car or a ride on the fairly frequent free shuttles Grand provides. No restaurants in any of the hotels. Restaurants in the casino are a cut above GS's but not quite up to HS standards. Rooms at all Grand hotels are superior to those at GS IMHO. However, you do need a car to go to any of the other casinos unless you are willing to endure the aggravation of the low-cost shuttles to the other casinos.

If you're looking for sidegames, the Horseshoe will most likely have the best action.

Last year there was tons of action everywhere. I mean there were a lot of games going on in the tourney room when the tables weren't being used.

Right. Lots of players paid for their entire trips, with money won playing 20/40 Holdem, after they got knocked out of the tournaments.

The Italian joint at The Grand is pretty darn good (IMHO).

One more point that may be of interest:

At least two of the Grand hotels (Terrace and Veranda) have free wireless internet access in the lobbies. You may be able to get connected in the rooms but I've heard reports that it is hard to do above the 2nd floor. I am not sure if there is access at the Grand (main) hotel, but it probably is since it is the "high end" hotel.

There is no free wireless at Gold Strike, Horseshoe, or Sheraton. If you need dial-up from these hotels, check in advance to ensure that there is a toll-free access number available.

If you are just talking hotels, the Grand wins by a long shot. The Gold Strike hotel has been going downhill for a couple of years now - the beds are actually sponges, they sink two feet when you sit on them, the wallpaper is peeling in the rooms, elevators are rarely running at 100%,

Horseshoe, right next door, is a pretty nice hotel, and Sheraton very close also, has good rooms.

Very useful info. Thanks everyone. I will prolly go with Horseshoe based on side action there.
