5/5 NL at Ocean's 11, interesting river...

I have been at the table for about half an orbit. The Villain (600 or so, I'm at 500) seems very aggressive and pretty solid, but haven't seen anyone play any meaningful hands. On we go...

I'm in MP1 and look at A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
Villain (UTG) raises to 20, UTG+1 folds, I call, all else fold.

Flop(45): Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
Villain bets 20, I raise to 60. He hesitates, then calls.

Turn(165): 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
He checks, I bet 100. He thinks for a while, finally tosses in a white chip.

River(365): 6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
He pushes All-In for my last 300, I...

On the river, I'd probably fold.

Here's the thing.. if you're calling raises preflop with AQs, you aren't looking for TPTK value. Once he calls your flop raise you should be looking for a real cheap showdown. I really hate your turn raise.

Based on the way he called my raise on the flop, I was 90% sure that I was ahead on the turn, so I saw no reason not to bet it. Also, I would be a lot more inclined to check a Q,9,6,5r board but there's so many possible draws there that giving a free card did NOT seem like a clever idea.

you need to call but i wouldve pushed on the turn. $100 is way too small a bet. $60 is too small a raise on the flop as well.

You want hero to bet $420 in to a $160 pot with TPTK in a spot where he can only be called by a better hand and will fold out many hands that he wants a call from? No way that's right, Mike, unless this is a very strange opponent.

Also, what size raise would you like to see on the flop? I think a large raise is pretty bad.

also, making a bigger raise on the flop makes getting in on the turn much easier.

Overbetting the flop and getting all-in on turn is far superior to calling off your chips on the river after a scare card comes...

Uh, why are you eager to get all your chips in with TPTK? FWIW, I think a pot-sized raise on the flop is one of the worst options. It sets you up for one or many of the following things to happen:

1) You get run off by a worse hand,
2) You get all your money in way behind or a little ahead,
3) You let slimly-drawing hands get away very cheap.

That's not good.

i'm really not all that happy to be getting all my chips in w/ tptk, but i think the line i and mike proposed is better that the one taken, and gets all the $ in vs a better set of hands.

personally, i raise pot and check behind on the turn and maybe call a river bet or bet if checked to or check behind, depending on what falls and what the opp looks like.

but then again, i suck.
