Default First Live \"Big\" Tourny

Hey all - I have been lurking for a while here, this is my first post.

I played with 759 others at the Chumash Casino (Santa Ynez Cali) on Sat. Nov 19. It was a 200 + 20. I had a great time, I ended up getting 40th and slightly more than double my buy in.

Do to practicalities and logistics, most of my play is on the internet, but tournaments (not ring games) are where I think my potential is. And particularly the large field and slow moving style tournaments. What would be the best site to play a similar style of tourny? (On Sat starting stack was 5000, with 25 50 blinds for one hour, with half hour rounds from then on.) I arrived two hours late due to a traffic accident, and was happy to find I still had about 4500 in chips.

Anyways, I so far have only played on party. It seems like the Stars deepstacks tourny is the only one that may be what I am looking for....I have never actually played on Stars though (I have not set up a Neteller account yet.) Any comments would be welcome.

P.S. I don't suppose anyone else from 2+2 played in the tourny....? I did see Amir Vahedi there, he was out though before I actually sat down.

the Stars Deepstacks i believe are the only thing that would fit what you're looking for. They are fantastic, and one runs every day. Sometimes a few a day.

I'm probably a little dumb in asking but what's the dif between a tourney and a ring game?

As a player I have found myself sort of in a similar position where I play better in tourney's than I do at tables. I've only been playing about 5 months now and a lot of that playing has been at http://www.poker.com
Now they have a daily free $3,000. tourney for active members that I regularly play in (about 600 compete on average). I also sometimes play in a $2,000. $20. + $2. tourney that normally has less than 100 people in it.

Now I don't do too bad in these tourney's with a number of wins which basically finances all my table play. But I seem to regularly 'donate' these winnings to table players and I can't put my finger on why. I've made a decent buck from the tourneys but about 80% of that I've lost at the tables.

I feel like I play similar in both. Is that a mistake? The only other thing I can figure is if maybe I'm playing scared to lose at the tables and this is getting me to fold good hands on big bets. I'm playing the same people at both so it has me lost. Any input is very welcome.

No [censored]!! I finished 35th, it was also my first live MTT. I was the tall skinny kid in a green Sonics jersey...I think A-4 was my last table, I also did stints at F-1 and C-1. I went out on the first hand of $10k/$20k blinds.

only some ppl will make you feel dumb in this forum.just ignore them and eventually they will explode from their egos...
a tourney (tournament) and a ring game is a cash game.

The Pokerstars deepstacks give you a lot of room for risk/creative play. They are great to try new things and even to break into the online tourney play.

The deep stacks are a lot of fun. They also take FOREVER, which is cool if you are just looking for experience and entertainment. If not, you ought to play one of the higher stakes ones. It is easy to do well in the $10 deep stacks, but you will end up making about $.50/hour.
