Lucky, Laggy, or Lucrative?
Foxwoods $20-$40, Wednesday night
My image right now is pretty solid, maybe even on the extra-tight side, since I've been on a fairly cold run of cards. Twice in the last couple orbits I've opened with a raise and taken then blinds, and I've made some turn/river laydowns recently. Villain in this hand is a solid player I know from reputation, but we haven't played together much at all. He has been at the table for the past hour or so. Onto the hand: I open raise in MP with ATs. Villain on the button 3-bets, blinds fold, I call. Flop: Q96 rainbow, no spade. I check, villain bets, I call. Turn: Q96 8 completing the rainbow. I check, villain bets, I raise, villain 3-bets, I call. River: Q968 7. I check, villain bets, I raise, villain calls, MHIG. I will spare my (possibly flawed) reasoning until I get some responses. Any comments appreciated - Jags |

Laggy. Fold the flop. I don't like drawing to one overcard which might not even been good, and having 2 backdoor straight draws.

Re: Lucky, Laggy, or Lucrative?
I agree. Right after I played the hand, I realized that I did not have a call on the flop. One of the leaks in my game is that I do not like check-folding when I get 3 bet preflop. I have to work on this.
However, a few decent players took issue not with my call on the flop but my turn play. Assuming you incorrectly called the flop, what do you think about the play of the rest of the hand? Thanks for the response - Jags |
