Default Coming to Boston/best of Boston

A group of friend and I are probably coming to Boston this coming weekend, looking to cause trouble, drink excessively and do other stupid things that guys on road trips end up doing. I'm looking for a list from the many Boston locals on this board of the thinks that we can do there, that includes:

Best Pub
Best Nightclub
Best Restaurant for four guys to go to together and have a mean steak
Best Breakfast
Best place to see some good live music (Jazz, rock, whatever)

We are also looking for a reasonably priced hotel somewhere central.

All suggestions are welcome. Also, if any 2+2'ers out there want to grab a beer or nine this weekend, PM me and we can meet up.

Thanks,

-Diplomat

I'll play. Now, a lot of this depends on a) the places you like to go, and b) where you end up staying. I live in Cambridge, so I'm biased to things on "my" side of the river. Boston is a small, walkable city that is easy to deal with w/o a car.

I'll start here, b/c it's an important one. Boston hotels are expensive, so where you stay (of course) depends on your budget. The Copley Square Hotel and the Boston Omni Parker House Hotel are both reasonable, decent places in good location. You'll save a little by staying out in the suburbs, but this is NOT worth it. Stay in the city.

Best Pub

[/ QUOTE ] Boston is full of them. Near the Omni Parker, I like the Beantown Pub. A reasonably non-touristy 'dive-bar' with cheap beer, pool, and TV's. Copley Square isn't in as "pub-ish" a neighborhood. Back Bay is more full of bars, lots of which tend to be tourist packed on the weekends. Try Jury's, Vox Populi, or Dillon's.

Best Nightclub

[/ QUOTE ] Boston is kind of a cheesy nightclub city. If you mean like "dancing place with young girls and Euro-trash types" then places on Landsdowne street are your bet. For a much cooler, loungy type place, try Bomboa, 33, or Saint.

Best Restaurant for four guys to go to together and have a mean steak

[/ QUOTE ] Grille 23. Expensive, but phat.

Best Breakfast

[/ QUOTE ] If you have a car, drive out to Soundbites in Somerville. Best in the city.

[/ QUOTE ] Middle East in Cambridge. right on the Central stop on the red line (t)

have fun

I heard that there used to be a sign in South Station that said, "If you want to have a good time in Boston, go to New York." Truer words were never uttered.
(The Paramount on Charles Street in Beacon Hill has a decent breakfast.)

If you want to venture into Brighton, The Kell's and The White Horse Tavern are quality establishments. The big nightclubs are Tequila Rain (dance music), Avalon (techno), and a couple others on Landsdowne that I've never been to.

You must hit up Fanueil Hall. A schmorgusboard of resturants that will have something you desire. Boston Beer Works is a place to go if you really like your beer (100 beers on tap!).

I was going to reply buy kenberman really nailed a lot of it. The middle east (upstairs or downstairs) is a great place to see a show.

I'm not sure about the rest, but for best nightclub I'd try the Matrix in the thearte district. The alley has some good places right next to the public gardens. I second that the Kells is also good in Brighton. My girlfriend likes The Rack at Fanuel hall as well.

As for live music, there's a place right accross from the Fleet Center called the Harp that me and my friends used to go to alot. Nice talent, both on stage and on the dance floor.

I like Fire & Ice near the John Hancock Building for good food. They cook the food right in front of you and have a wide variety.

Hope this helps.

Peace

Goodie

The Paradise Rock Club on Comm Ave is another good place to see a show, depending who's playing. I'll be up for Averi (excellent local band) on the 26th.
