Default Question for AC locals: whats the 411 on Brigantine?

My wife has been angling for us to rent a vacation house this fall/winter. She's happy to stay in a beach town off season, as her principal reason for wanting one is to get out of NYC more regularly. She mentioned the Hamptons, but I immediately thought of Brigantine, even though I've never been there. Atlantic City is an absolute dump, but would my wife like Brigantine in the fall? She's looking for some place with beautiful views of water/beach/nature etc., a nearby Starbucks, a few decent places to eat, but absolutely no crack whores, winos, AC degenerates, etc. Is it worth checking out Brigantine?

It's definitely worth a look. My buddy moved down there about 6 months ago and loves it. He said he's got a great view of the beach. You won't find crackwhores/winos lingering around here either. I'm not too sure about the restaurant situation, but I'd figure there is an adequate amount, since Brigantine is pretty well inhabited year-round.

Check out Longport as well. It's a little nicer than Brigantine (not that Brigantine is a bad option).

I stayed there on one of my AC trips and agree that it is a nice, quaint little beach town. The scuzz of AC (pawn shops, EZ loans, vagrants) has not spread to Brigantine Beach yet.

FYI in a Wall Street Journal article a few months back, Brigantine Beach was listed as one of the top 10 hottest real estate markets in the country. Thus, I imagine that rental prices will be a bit higher in Brigantine than in the surrounding areas.

Cape May is way more than 20 minutes. Brigantine is nice although the real estate is sky rocketing. Immediately south of AC is Ventnor, Margate, and Longport, all small communities and all fairly nice but also somewhat expensive.

If you're willing to spend the money you'll be able to find a good place in one of those areas, if not you'll have to look inland.

another option is LBI. A little longer drive but there are a lot of restaurants/shopping etc. It is about 45 minutes to an hour depending on where on LBI you rent and there is also a boat (The Black Whale) that you can take to the AC Marina across the bay that runs back and forth a few times a day.
