Default whats my play here?!

Local 3/6 NL game
im sitting with $240, 2 others in this hand are the same, villain just got lucky on a huge pot and has about $1300, hes aggressive and claims to be the best NL player in the country (thats a whole different story)

im in the BB with 7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], villain raises to $30 form the button, i call and so do the other 2 short stacks.

flop comes 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

whats my play here? do i lead out and try and take the pot??

you have a very nice hand with alot of steal equity, you obviously could easily have a set, how can he put you on 77 and not a pair above or below it? that said, i like to play this flop aggressively.

check raise or lead out strongly, whatever you would normally do with a set.

i like this for metagame purposes as well, as a form of getting paid off with a set if you do get caught here and are forced to play a big pot slightly behind a big pair for example.

remember anyone else having a straight is highly unlikely as you hold two of 4 key cards.

You lead out, and he raises you big. What's your play?

I like check-raising here, in general. Because then he has to put his entire stack in the middle to see if he's ahead, and not vice-versa. But it depends on the two other people.

if hero always leads out with sets (or hands like open ended sf draws) and villian is an obervant player this will not be terribly effective imho

Doesn't Hero want to take the pot down right now? He only has 8 clean outs. Though taking it down right now would be tough... position is a real liability. A check-raise might take it down, but it would definitely pot-commit you if Villain (or either of the two in the middle) has any sort of a decent hand, and decides to call your raise.

I'd actually probably just wait for a better spot to get my money in. Heads up with the villain it would be a whole different story, but with three opponents, you're not in great shape.

check raise all in. if they are passive players who may take the free card, then maybe pot it. otherwise check raise all in. you are likely to have the best hand, and have outs even if you dont. Let overcards take a stab and then shut them out. this is one of the few advantages of having a fairly small (slightly less than 50bb) stack. This hand would be trickier in a deeper game because it becomes more important to figure out whether you are ahead or not. here you just shove the money in. excuse me if i sound lag, i've been playing 6max lately.
