Default Dealers at Turning Stone

If this is seen as being a 'bad beat' rant then I am sorry but I want to esplain how I 'played' this hand badly so that if this happens in the future everyone knows how to play it (although I assume most do already.)

Turning Stone 1-2 NL game, I am on the button with the big stack at the table, UTG has about $150

UTG (10 seat) makes it $10 to go and everyone folds to the button
I raise to $30
SB looks down and says 'I have 3 cards'
Dealer (name ommitted, he has been dealing for 4 months) calls 'misdeal' and sweeps UTG's cards into the muck
I Table my aces, bets are returned, UTG says he had AQo and would have called, and the next hand is dealt...

-------------

30 seconds later it hits me, I have only seen a similar scenario 5,000 times before at turning stone...

IF THERE IS ACTION IN A HAND THEN THERE IS NOT A MISDEAL!

I question the dealer about this and he says I am wrong (I know that I am right and drop the conversation.) After he gets up I politely approach him and ask him to do me a favor and ask the floor if this should have been a misdeal or if the SBs cards should just be mucked and the hand continue...

Meanwhile Scott (a great dealer at TStone) sat down and I recounted my story to him and he told me that obviously it is not a misdeal because there was previous action. He then kidded with me that I should know better and should have called the floor because I (yes I'm 20 years old but Scott has seen me enough to know that I know the rules of the game) should have known it wasnt a misdeal.

Meanwhile Scott calls Kim (one of the floors) over and I recount my story to hear her say that obviously this is not a misdeal because there is action in the hand - the SBs cards are just ruled dead.

10 minutes later dealer comes back to me and tells me that he asked the floor (the other one, guy with a mustache) and was told that he was correct in calling 'misdeal.' I didn't want to argue it anymore, I am not sure why the floor gave him the wrong answer but I told the dealer that he was wrong and asked him to please just call the floor over the next time that he was unsure about something.

I'm just glad this happened to me in the NL 1-2 100 buy in game then to one of the regulars at the NL5-10 no max game, they wouldn't have been so nice about it.

-Steve

PS In recent months I have experienced some really poor dealers at TStone (ie the guy who flipped 5 cards in one half hour and kept commenting that 'the deck was sticky'... I asked for a deck chance and it stopped) but, although I have only played at the Borgata, Taj, Trop, and TStone, the following dealers are all class and know exactly what they are doing: Scott, George, Pete, Walt (ok maybe he talks too much but hes a great guy,) Joe, and Ben (after only 8 mo.s he is a great dealer.) I just wish that the dealers were better trained and didn't have to be great on their own... If only they werent the only game in town...

Rant over.

One of the funniest TS dealer moments that I've seen recently was at the 2/5 $200 max NLHE game, where my friend was all-in on the turn with a flush draw and open-ended straight draw. 5th street was no help, allowing his opponent to take down the pot with top pair, but when "6th street" completed my friend's straight, the question was raised as to why the dealer had put six community cards on the board.

Did you hear Walt's bad beat stories this weekend? Apparently he lost AA to A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. Rough.

Ya, I'm definitely not a fan of Turning Stone dealers. I don't play live much, I probably played at Turning Stone last before I went to school, in late August I think. One of the dealers went off on me because I folded my hand out of turn, and I guess I had done it a few times. A bunch of friends were behind me, and I was kind of talking to them after seeing my hands. I didn't think anyone cared since it was a real friendly table, and everyone was havin a good time, joking and whatever. The dealer is like, "fold out of turn one more time and I'll deal you out." I'm like, "sorry man." He's like "no, you've done it more than once, you have no class... blah blah blah." Just goes crazy on me, like yelling. He's right, I shouldn't have done it, but him being like, hey, please don't fold out of turn would have accomplished the same thing. People at the table were like, "relax." I asked him if he needed a hug, but he didn't answer.

A dealer or two after that, I'm talking to the dealer, asking if they had any higher NL games, because all they had that day was 1-2 NL. He's like, "ya, they have a $1000 max buy-in games on Friday. You'll lose your shirt in that game." I'm like, "pretty good players then huh?" He's like, "some, but you probably couldn't hang with the big boys though." I'm thinkin, "what?????" He's dealt like 5 hands and I don't think I played one, so it's not like I made a dumb play and he thought I sucked. He was basically just telling me he thought I probably sucked. Which was awesome of him. I didn't talk to him after that.

Why does turning stone have such small caps on the buyins, 1/2 with $100 and 2/5 with $200, those are rediculously low. Has anyone asked the room manager to raise them.

Maybe I'll ask when I'm there. If I get yelled at or something crazy by those people, it's on you.

I don't really have that much of a problem with a dealer telling you to wait until it is your turn to muck your hand. Turning Stone has a lot of college kids who pay there who don't really know the rules of the B&M game because they are under 21 and have only played online.

There typically is too much chatter about their hands and telegraphing of actions out of turn so I don't mind when dealers try to enforce the rules.

On another note. How many people on these boards are TStone regulars? I will be there most likely from Thursday - Saturday this week and am wondering if any of you will be there.

Not all the games have caps on buy-ins. They do have a $300 Min buy-in no max NLHE game on weekends. Stacks there usually start in the 1.5k - 3k range.

The Friday NL game is great. A lot of action (although I have only played in it once, when I get my roll back up I plan to play there regularly.)

The low cap on the buy in games are terrible. $1-2 100 max buy in and $2-5 $200 max buy in simply doesn't make any sense for the players.

The reason that the casino caps the buy in is because they realize that one of their main groups of players is college kids who go to school nearby and they dont want to price them off the table.

That said they should keep the low buy in $100, 1-2 game (for the kids) but at least make the $2-5 game a $500 buy in.

I've voiced this oppinion to the poker room manager but my suggestion fell upon deaf ears.
