Default QQ vs KK vs AA

I was playing in the 20-40 HE game at Lucky Chances last night, and the following hand went down at the 10-10-20, 40-to-go NLHE game at the next table.

Sam B. opens with a big raise, to $300. Abraham calls, and a player I don't know comes over the top. Sam thinks for a moment, then mucks. Abraham pushes his stack all-in (about $7,000 total), and gets called by the other player. Abraham's KK is no good, as the other guy's AA held up and Abraham gets broke.

Sam B. is pleased as Punch at the laydown he made; great big smile, his eyes glittering. The big pot is the talk of the top section (until the 9-18 table on the other side hits the $79,000 bad-beat jackpot).

This happened in our home game once, except there were a couple shorter stacks in there with A-Q and no one folded anything.

Alan,

Too bad Abraham wasn't in prime reading mode. He can be impressive when he's on his game. A great guy. Please say hello for me if you see him soon, and tell Sam hi as well if you don't mind.

$79,000 in extra rake is just sick.

Matt

What the hell is he doing moving all-in with KK?? If he gets called he's drawing to 2 outs. Just my 2 cents.

Default For Matt

It's not $79,000 in extra rake. The players don't get the rake back as the casino gets it so how is it extra rake besides the feeble argument that it comes off the table. I mean if that's the case the waitresses get 1,000,000,000 in rake?

The only time it is not extra rake is if you share in a Jackpot. The comparison to tipping the waitress does not apply since it is voluntary. You may argue that it is voluntary to play in a JP game as well. At some rooms all low limit games are raked and if you are unable to play higher you have no choice other than to not play at all. If you do not mind extra rake then I imagine you would gladly play in a game with a 20% rake capped at $8.

If its the Abraham I think it might be then 1) he is fairly weak tight and the over raise was an easy read for Sam and 2) there are rumors that Abraham might share some BR with Sam (why in the hell Sam would share with Abraham is beyond me and sheds some doubt on that rumor). The guy in the middle was just iceing on the read so to spreak.

Personally I can't see how this hand is very interesting from the QQs perspective.

Default Me with Jimbo

If they're making me pay it, I call it rake, even if technically it's a shared even-money lottery pool.
