Default Buying Chips

Whats the best place online or in the NYC/NJ area to buy a chipset for home use? What weight should I look for?

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Online:

http://www.pokerchips.com/

http://www.chipco.com/default.htm

http://www.gamblersgeneralstore.com/

Look for a composit or clay composit chip anything abouve 8 grams. Be prepaired - You are looking at 35 cents each and up.

Also check out ebay - sometimes you can get a good deal there as well.

The other thing that we did once when I was out west near Vegas - Since you are so close to Atlantic City; make a couple of trips to the Borgata (nice new checks!) and buy a couple of $1 racks each trip. Spend $500 and get 500 chips, then if you decide not to continue with your home game - just cash 'em in!

Ebay.....type in Poker chips...the 11.5g chips are really nice and worth the money....500 chips, assorted colors, and an aluminum case to hold them.....very sharp set.

I went to www.5stardeal.com
You can get clay compostites for .10 cents a piece. I also like 11.5 grams. They feel real nice and are bly far worth the price. You can get 300 chips and a case for $99.

Default 11.5 gram chips

All of these places sell the same chips (the composit suited dice, suits, etc) 11.5 gram chips with a steel shank for weight. So if you want those just shop around for the best price.

The other "heavy" chip that does not have a shank (or core) are the Nevada Jack chips. These are very nice and fancy (expensive) but, I did have a problem with my Nevada Jack chips cracking in 2.

Default my thoughts on pokerchips.com

well about 11-12 weeks ago i ordered 500 chips, two decks of kem cards, and a case for my home game. I was instructed to send them a picture of the art I wanted on the chips. I fired up photoshop, and by altering a few of the demonstration chips online made an exact set of what I wanted. i sent them the chips, and was told that i would recieve a proof in my email the next week. well next week the proof never came, and the week after that. I assumed they just took my exact design and started work. after 5 weeks (estimated time was 4-6 weeks), i called up the company and asked for the status of the proof. well they misspelled my email, and i never recieved the proof, thus i never OKed the proof, thus no work was started on the proof. anyways, i then wait another 5 weeks and call them to check the status. the chips were to be finished july 8th (last monday). now it is safe to assume that a package can travel from maine to connecticut within 5 days, so i call up the boys and organise a home game for the upcoming friday. friday morning i call the company, and they tell me that the chips are still "in the shipping department." honestly, after making your client wait over a month for his product after a clerical error, would it not be prudent to deliver the said product expediently? the answer: no. today the chips were shipped, finally. so they sat and collected dust in the "shipping department" for a week, and are now on the way here. fedex estimates that the chips will arive tomorrow. great. the only problem with that is that i leave for costa rica at 5AM tomorrow. i suppose that's not bad at all, but i was looking forwards to my chips... i guess ill have to wait 2 weeks before i can testify to the quality of the chips.

oh well.

at least i can bring the good old plastic chips down to costa rica and not care if i lose them :\

Interesting, we had the exact opposite experience with pokerchips.com. We needed 3000 made up for a corporate function, I called and spoke to the office manager, and she asked when we needed them by, granted I had a 12 week lead time but I had also asked for 1 inch centers instead of 3/4. I sent both digital and hard copy art (photoshop). Now I didn't recieve a proof either, except for a verbal "your design is OK".

I followed up with them every couple of weeks to insure they were on schedule and they infact finished 2 weeks ahead of schedule.

I will agree that:

Pokerchips.com has a long lead time - longer than anyone else.

You need to keep in touch with them.

We had one screw up on one chip denomination - the color was off - they should have caught that.

However:

Pokerchips.com has the lowest art charge and lowest minimum of ANY of the custom manufactures. My art charge for 4 color art and 8 denominations was $50. The next closest art charge bid was $900.

So if you're not in a hurry, want 4 color art, and are willing to do a little follow-up, pokerchips.com is not a bad choice.

We got 2 color 3 spots with a 1" 4 color center. The total with art was $2600.

Chip quality is excellent / casino quality

go to e-bay.

search for 500 clay suited poker chips. Disregard whatever case they come in. ou can buy the set of chips for much cheaper with a oak case. an new alum case costs only aroun 20 bucks. but the difference between them on ebay is greater (or at least when I was buying). Although i did manage ot pick up a vinyl covered aluminum case with the chips for around 115, i had to wait a month because they routinely go for around 135-145. I would look at all the sites listed and compairison shop at e-bay.
