Matching katrina donations....

Are the poker sites that are matching the donations to the hurricane relief fund giving to the Red Cross? I'm a little troubled that none of the sites are mentioning where the money is going, and when it will be sent.

Pokerstars says they are donating to the American Red Cross. I'm not sure about the other sites.

Our paradise tourney is donating to the red cross. I don't think you need to worry about them getting the money there. Paradise and Stars are both very reputable.

Be careful to read the rules of how much is actually being donated.

Almost all of the Stars buyings will be donations, and then doubled. But the Paradise will only have half the money going to charity - and then double it to get back to the total buyin.

I think there is another site that is only giving a third of the total to charity, the rest goes to the prize pool, and then doubled for only 2/3s actually being donated to the relief.

I signed up for the Stars ones, because I don't actually plan on playing, and want the most donation for my dollars.

It's that way because their is still aprize pool for someone to win. Whether the winner wants to donate that or not is up to them.
Paradise is matching 50% of the buyins and then matching that. So technially they are matching 100% of the money raised and leaving the first 50% for the prize pool. Plus we have many bounty's up. And paradie is matching all donations.

How are you confused here? Am I missing something?

So if I buy in to the paradise for 10 dollars, 10 dollars, and only ten will go to the relief fund. But at stars, 19.98 will go to the relief fund. Is this not correct?
and at fulltilt, each 10 dollars is a 6.66 donation.

I was just trying to help the original poster maximize his dollar donation. He seemed concerned about where the money was going.

It says on stars website that they are matching 100%. How does $10 turn into 19.98? If you put up 10 they match 10.

Just donate to the Paradise account as all transfers are getting matched 100%.

This is correct. We are leaving $0.01 on the table from each entry, so right now the prize pool available to be won for the $5 event is a massive $10.33 (1,033 players).

In case you are worried, we will round the amount given to the American Red Cross up to the nearest dollar. The current total is $28,885 from players, matched by PokerStars, for a total right now of $57,770.
