I'm a hardcore gamer and my Dell 2405FPW is perfect for playing even the fastest paced shooters. Right now, I play BF2 pretty much exclusively, and it's awesome. There might be a very small amount of ghosting, but it's hardly noticeable and doesn't hinder gameplay at all.

Unless the vast majority of your time is spent playing high end video games, I think a 2001FP would be better. For most games, LCD monitors work perfectly and they are 100x better for every other use.

Besides physical size, please name me 3 of the 100 things that are better about LCD vs CRT?

I'm going to buy a new monitor for multi-tabling. A 19'' CRT@1600x1200 is $250, and the 2001FP is $700. Is it worth the extra $? Why?

Look at all the space you are saving. CRTs are HUGE.

I didn't say there are 100 things, I said 100x better. It's all about the magnitude.

As for three things:

1) Higher brightness.
2) More crisp, clear picture.
3) No flicker - prevents eye strain.
4) Less power requirement - saves $$$.
5) Produce less heat.
6) Lifespan - an LCD typically last longer than a CRT

Ok that's 6, and I'm sure there's more that I'm missing.

I guess I'm one of the few that actually likes my CRT. I bought one of those 2-tier desks so it's out of the way of everything, plus I've had it for like 3-4 years. I guess I'm one of the few who don't care about overlap either. Yesterday I was playing 6 tables (3 of Empire and 3 of UB) on 1024x768 resolution and it didn't bother me at all.

I'll probably stop being a cheap bastard and buy a 2001FP soon though.

If it makes you feel any better I'm not buying a 2001FP and going to get a 19-21" CRT. The main reason is that I play video games and LCD are not the greatest to play high end video games.

Here is some feedback about LCD vs CRT in a thread I created this morning:

FWIW, the difference in quality of CRTs over LCDs for gaming is so close now that it makes very little difference, at least when you look at the quality LCD screens (and the 2001FP is up there). One gaming magazine gave the Viewsonic 19" LCD monitor their top pick for a monitor to game on.

I game a lot, and I have absolutely no qualms using my 2001FP. The picture is sharp, the colors are vibrant, and I game at 1600x1200. I don't get any backlight bleedthrough nor have any dead pixels.

I notice that none of you mention the 2005FP, which seems to have more features and amazingly sells for less. Is there a reason for this?

You're talking about the 2005FPW. It actually has better specs, but is widescreen and has a 1680 x 1050 resolution so it won't fit 4 tables without overlap.

You can get a top of the line 21" CRT for $250 shipped off of ebay if you're interested in a CRT - Dell Sony Trinitron P1130 aka Sony g520 ($700 for new ones). It will do 2000x1500 if ya really want lol. if you get one, make sure it is almost def gonna be a refurb so MAKE SURE to get one that is rated "grade A," or it might suck. having said that, the 2001fp is sweet too, but will be a lot more expensive for you since you live in canada, and it isnt as high quality in terms of image quality and isnt quite as good for games, but it saves a hell of a lot of space and looks badass too lol.
