Default Sattelite for internet access??

I'm moving to a phat house that has been avoided by cable and is apparently too far fro DSL also. I guess Direcway is my best option. Any thoughts? Other choices? How well does this system work if I'm multitabling?

Im no expert by any means, but Ill tell you what I know. Download speeds are upto 700kbs which is a little lower than the slowest DSL speeds. I have heard download is through the satellite, and upload is through your phone line, with maximum upload speeds of 128kps, so while your multitabling experience might be OK, it could put a strain on the rest of the table, if their constantly waiting for your actions. Not to mention the $600 upfront costs and the 15 month contract. If I were you I would look at some alternatives before you jump into that, maybe Verizon Wireless Broadband service.

Your biggest problem is going to be the cost, dont know exact numbers but that it is $$$. There is also a problem with signal quality, lots of lost connections ,etc. And as stated above the download speed is better than the upload, which may cause some problems.

If its your only option then your gonna have to do it.

couple things he messed up on:
-slowest dsl is 256kbs, which is damn slow
-upload is now integrated into the dish, not on phone line.

i don't think the pings would be so bad that it would suck, but expect latency to be 500-600ms i would imagine.

I had sattelite internet for a while. The speed wasn't bad, the price was a bit much and it wasn't real reliable. On occasion in would crash and be a pain in the ass to get back up. Speed was never really an issue though, uploads were considerably worse than downloads but not too bad.
