Did you play all online or did you play some B&M?
Why or why not?
If you played B&M, how did your win rate live compare to online?

Less than 1% of my hands were played live. I played live only for variety/poops and giggles with 2+2ers.

Why or why not?

500 hands/hour online vs. 30 hands/hr live.

In order to achieve the same earn at the same winrate I would have to play something close to 60/120 live.

Since he won't post his win rate, let's have some fun speculating.

So he says 60/120 live... let's use the 1bb/hr conventional wisdom benchmark... that's $120/hr. Divide by 5 (@500 hands/hour) that's $24/100 hands or 4bb/100.

He did say "close" however, so let's roll that down a bit... say 3.75bb/100. Let's also account for a little exagerration as most humans are wont to do.

I'm going to put bison on 3.6bb/100. Anyone disagree?

An expert winrate at 60/120 is not 1 BB due the general increase in the level of play. It's probably closer 3/4 BB an hour or maybe even 3/5 BB.

You misunderstand my comparison.

8 tabling online = 15-20 hands/2 minutes
live = 1 hand/2 minutes

so for live play to earn the same money at the same winrate you have to play 15-20 times higher stakes.

Yeah, sorry, something's wrong here. It doesn't add up to an amount a mid-20s single guy in the bay area can comfortably live on. Survive on? Yes, certainly. But without any luxuries, indeed.

Now if you take away things a responsible person would be paying for like health insurance, auto insurance, and hypothetically reporting a little less than actual amounts to the big uncle, then okay, maybe. Certainly not a very glamorous life.

So...Bison, here's my question: During your life as a pro, your income was obviously not steady like us 9-5ers and thus you may have had a hard time with monthly budgeting. Did this pose any problems for expenses that absolutely had to be paid on time?
