if MP were to your left i think its an easy raise to knock off the various gutshots/overs. with him between you and the bettor with only 1 still to act on a very drawy board i think its less obvious.

You've never had a donkey/lag bet the river on a scare card as a weak bluff(?) attempt?

Basically they know you can't raise the river without the goods so they go ahead and bet the river with their top pair/whatever.
