Default Borgata Tourney\'s and Dealmaking

The Borgata has changed there tourney's back to rebuy tourney's, which gives way to some heavy action and more prize money. In the beginning i made a few guys rebuy several times, while i only brought an add on which boosted me to 18K. Worked my way to the final table and came in fifth, when a curious thing happened. I don't want to say it was racially motivated because i am African American, but the final four players decided to cut a deal after i was gone which gave them $1500 each, while fifth paid $409. I took this as an afront to me as no deal was brought up when i was second in chips, so from now on my policy will be no deal making, and go for the whole she bang. Thanks for any thoughts.

Don't take it as an afront to you. I won a live tournament at my local casino this sunday in which we had an equal four way chop with a save for the winner.

I was actually the one who proposed it. At the point the fifth place finisher busted, everyone was about even in chips. The irony is that I had been planning to propose the chop all along when it got down to four and the fifth place finisher was someone who had been proposing chops since 7th place and I kept refusing.

I'm not trying to call you out or anything, but there are more likely explanations for them chopping at four instead of five. The main reason would be that $x/4 > $x/5. If you hadn't gone out fifth, you would have, in all likelihood, been included in the chop.

That said, I admire your no-chop stance for the future and think you'll probably come out better for it.

It was common in the past at the Borgata rebuy tournaments to squeeze out the short stacks then chop. If you were short then that was the most likely reason.

Every time one of us pull the race card for something silly like this it makes the times when someone is truly being discriminated against seem that much more trivial and easily dismissable.

Do you really believe that these 4 guys all got together at some point and planned to wait till you were knocked out to cut a deal? You said you were offended that no deal was offered to you when you were still in it. Did you ask anyone if they wanted to make a deal or do you just expect to be offered?

That being said, I don't make deals either. Nothing is sweeter than taking the entire 1st place purse.

Ha Ha!! Nobody mentioned a deal while you were in action? Poohoo! You bitchin cause you didn't have the presence of mind to bring it up? May not have done any good anyway.

Here is a deal I was involved with at Taj. The 5th and 4th players to be blinded out, BOTH started begging for deal, very EARLY, at five players. Here's what happened: When the 4th player got blinded out, before he could stand up ....US three remaining players ALL SIMULTANEOUSLY STATED "THAT'S IT, CALL THE FLOOR TO CHOP IT UP" (4K each). Good thing you weren't involved in that one. You would have been calling Jesse...

LOL - I love this. Way back in the dark ages it was considered rude for anyone but the big stack to broach the subject of a deal, so now when a short stack starts whining for a deal it just hardens my resolve not to chop until they're busted.
