AA misplayed myself into a tough river call
600 NL 6-max
I have 1300, villain has about 3k and seems to have some game to back up his stack. He has shown down some pretty strong hands thus far. I am button, 2 limpers to me including villain from CO. I make it 30, all fold to villain, who calls. Flop(75): 10 7 4 rainbow He checks to me, I bet 75, he calls. Turn(225): 2c putting two clubs out He checks, I check. River(225): 5o He checks, I bet 125, he makes it 325 on top. Hmmmm. |

Re: AA misplayed myself into a tough river call
This could be simply aggresiveness because he interpreted your flop bet a continuation bet, your turn check weakness and your river bet a bluff (AK or something). This would be logical because he called your flop bet, meaning he should have had something because it looks like quite a drawless board (..for a tight player out of position). So if you put him on a marginal hand, you would have to bluff at it at the river or else lose the pot.
If he had a set, I would expect him to bet the river. I don't imagine the river card doing him any good. |

Ouch. I'd feel more comfortable folding the river if you bet a little more, and he raised a little more.
I think I gotta look him up. Also, you can post this in mid-high if you want, you might get better replies |

An overpair is possible too (bc rather low pfr).

Re: AA misplayed myself into a tough river call
Yeah, I accidently posted it here. I wanted to look weak on the turn as I put him on a 10 thinking I'd slowdown on the turn if I did indeed miss, and I could get him to call a bet on the river. He was a very good player so I don't think he calls another large turn wtih a hand I'm dominating, and I'd expect a C/R on the flop with a strong draw or a lead on the turn with one.
The river raise threw me a little bcause I was really just expecting a call from a smaller pair, but I decided he sensed weakness on the river and called. He showed Ac5c, a hand I really had not put him on at all (and makes me not like my turn check as much) and MHIG. |
