Default Calling down TAGs - losing strategy?

I'm in the BB with K9s ... Five handed, folded to the button who raises. He'll do this with a wide range - any ace, any pair, any two broadway, maybe more...

I call. Flop is AAK, rainbow.

I opt to check-call down, but when he bets the river I realize there's almost no chance I have the best hand - with no draws, he's got to realize I have something, almost certainly a king.

In general, how bad is this play of calling down? Should I muck this pre-flop?

Turn-river went 2-2...

You made no turn raise, the standard blah blah boring trip aces play, so he can assume you're on a K or a pocket pair. Just call down, especially if he's going to aggressively value bet. Folding this preflop is criminal.

I'm not disagreeing, but can he bet the river with a hand I beat? Maybe I just feel silly calling down and seeing boats.

I think you should either check/fold or bet/fold the river, and I like bet/fold since it tends to get you to showdown. You're right that he's almost never bluffing and probably never value betting a worse hand on the river (MAYBE a worse K) so check/calling sucks. I would rather bet and hope he calls with a worse K or makes a bad call (after a bad turn bet) with a PP. I've seen much worse out of tags I thought were solid.

So is the general consensus, however, that I wasn't wrong to see the river?

Betcall is good on the river. No way he raises you with a worse hand.

Those two statements contradict each other. You mean bet/fold instead of bet/call?

you never know he might just have a smaller pair and think the only way he can win is the bet all the way,
id call him down,

or else what about raising flop to get a cheap showdown?
hmmmm naw you might just fold a smaller pair then,

dunno you could raise flop if he reraises fold, if he calls, check turn and call river?
but if he is bluffing then a flop riase might fold him so you lose money there,

i think callign down is best here,
