lol youve definitely got that backwards. nirvana is as mainstream as brittany spears. smiths are not hipster either, very mainstream.

Nirvana is debatable, but not the smiths. A lot of the hipster type crowd really digs them.

I think they're both pretty good examples of bands that get maintream (RS/Spin) critical praise, maintream success, and yet still get praised in like pitchfork (which, lets face it, has a pretty big say in what is indie cool).
